Hey buddy smile.gif I am sorry to hear that sleep is bugging you... I never had that problem and I am grateful for it.. I am one of those guys that puts his head on the pillow and falls right there and then biggrin.gif Have you tried any natural remedies for this? Valleriana is a good one and also, meditation will improve the quality of your sleep smile.gif

Now, for the questions:

Muting the strings with the left hand by just touching them NOT pressing them, is the key to get the 'chuck'a'chuck' typical sort of sound, so often encountered in funk music. It's nothing new to you, so my impression is that you got scared a bit too early tongue.gif

Regarding the thrash lesson - it's all a matter of efficiency and hand relaxation, I think, but I would have to see you do it to figure out where you tense and where you should relax.. The key is of course, slow practice and gradual speed raising while keeping the hand relaxed smile.gif

Ha! That's Nuno - what project is this??

Usually if i stick around "my perfect" sleep routine which is like waking up around 5-6am and going to bed around 8-9pm i feel pretty good and healthy....but once i drift out, its just insane. I end up going to bed at 3pm waking up at midnight...sometimes going 40h+ without getting any sleep sad.gif i just hate it when it happens.

Regarding the lessons.

Yeh, i really don't know how to deal with grace/ghost notes however you wish to call them. i tend play them as pauses.
On video 4 of the funk lesson i saw Stephane applying just a really light touch to the chunk "Graced" notes, but when he slowed down he didn't play them, so i was a bit confused tongue.gif

That's from Extreme last abum "saudades de rock" from 2010. That picking thing that he does sounds so cool, but i have no idea how he does it biggrin.gif

I am holding on the recording for a bit. I think i can still do some improvements on my own. So as soon as i feel i have some that is ready to be recorded i will post it.

HA! How could I have mistaken them for one of Nuno's side projects laugh.gif

Silly me... - well mate, you know that a recording can help me help you better than anything, so please go on and record if ya feel like it smile.gif

Try the muting as I suggested and show me what you got, to begin with smile.gif I am interested in that particular part only, if you say that you can play the rest. There's another thing - try to use your ears - when we record lessons, we can't ALWAYS play things in the same way all over again, simply because we are not machines wink.gif

here's the current situation.

I have no guitar picks and no strings (my 1 year old strings finally passed out), and all the local stores...well aren't Local anymore.

Which makes really hard for me to get gear, i am hoping to go the big city this weekend and spend some euros.

That's mainly the reason why i haven't updated this.

Btw, i am looking for some legato lessons, but some cool ones tongue.gif do you have any suggestions?

Hey mate, well, I wish your guitar a speedy recovery then smile.gif

Legato, you say... Hmmm, One of the best ones to begin with would be Ben's 'Land of Legato' Series:

https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Bens-Land-Of-Legato/

I have no idea what your legato technique looks like, so if you can tackle this first one and let me know how it feels, or even shoot a video my way, I can definitely help out further smile.gif

I have some takes, videos on that lesson, BUT barely no sound. Even with headphones it is quite hard to hear.
There is something wrong with my SG :'(. I don't know the correct terms, but what happened (According to my father) was:

You see that little piece where the Jack connects into the guitar?. Well the 2 wires that were connected to that piece broke off.
So with some copper wires (think that is the name) i tried to fix it, by reconnecting the 2 wires into the piece. (i'v done this several times so i wasnt worry). BUT, the last time they broke, i actually let some dudes from a store fix it, since i wanted to fix something else. Well... sad.gif they removed the plastic that separated the 2 wires.

And my dumb mind didn't notice, so i ended up connecting 1 wire an some part of the other together in one of the spots in the piece.
....Now i have no signal going between the guitar and amp. I have already separeted the wires correctly, well my dad did.
But no signal still...so the problem is probably deeper.

This is the piece where the wires connect that i was talking about. And since a live in the middle of nowhere biggrin.gif it's a pain to get to the closest music store.

I don't know if it is worth to post any video (here) since you can barely make out the sound, but if you still wish to see, I will post it.

On other note.

i am kinda stuck improvising wise, and what i mean by stuck is. I learnt all Major Scale shapes (both condensed and extended). i know where the root/ 3º/5º/7º...so on. so on are (more or less), but when it comes to improve over a random vamp, i can't really do something that i like with it. I'v never learnt licks or anything like that. i suck at soloing basically...Help!

Hey mate smile.gif If you have the videos, why not - post them please smile.gif Too bad mate, somehow, I feel like you always have trouble with your gear.. sad.gif or is it just my impression?

About improvising smile.gif Pick your favorite major key solo - a simple one though and post it here, ok? I will tell you a thing or two about a way in which you can work on your impro skills based on an already existing piece wink.gif

Hello Cosmin, how is your life going? It has been a while.
I'v been a bit down. I did take the exam, i kinda do pretty decent on the "Guitar Exam", not so great on the "Classical Theory".
At the end of the day, i didn't get in. From what i heard, some dudes from my town were studying there last year and tales tell the story of some deep troublemakers, if you know what i mean. I do not know if those "tales" where taken in consideration on my avaliation or not, but goddamn.

I got depressed, i really did. I didn't play guitar, i stilll have the 12th grade ( 2ºdisciplines) left to do, i had no job. I started to wonder wth am i doing here.

Today i finally got my SG fixed, and played with her for the first time in 2 months. i am rusty. It's gonna take a few days to get my hands back on action.

I also got back in to school, i should have the 12th grade by February.

So yeh, i am aimlessly wandering the world right now tongue.gif

Hey bro! You know, there are times in life when we are tested and our heart and will is put through fire.

Maybe this was one of those times for you - so take it as it is and move forward. You are young, you are talented, but you have to put your will power into it and believe in what you do. Let's see, how is the rest of this year looking for ya in terms of activities?

I want to help you plan out your goals in guitar playing and not only, so that you may become the master of your own time smile.gif What do you think? Are you willing to strike a deal with me?

This year. Well i was looking into some part-time jobs, but i don't have much hopes. I will start classes in September (hopefully) which will last until early Spring of the next year.

Regarding the guitar playing, i am up to anything that get me distracted and that feels somehow like progress, but i tell you, these last months without touching the guitar really hit me, hard. I feel like i can barely move my fingers.

So, until you get a job you have time to dedicate to guitar playing, right? Here's what I have in mind smile.gif

I would like to help you out with developing a 6 days a week 4hrs/day guitar playing schedule which would cover applied theory, lead playing and rhythm techniques, ear training and creation, based on what you learn so that at the end of each month you will have something to put your hand on in terms of 'hey, here's what I came up this month!!'

Would you be up for it, mate?

You see, 4 hrs a day is not too much and not too little, so you won't feel like it's too much at once wink.gif Also, can you record nowadays? It would help you a tremendous lot!

Alright bro! I say, let's try this approach smile.gif

Week one The major scale

1. Theory - please read this and start asking questions about it and after that I will give you ear training exercises: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_fo...showtopic=47641
2. Lead playing - https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/major-soloing-no-4th/ - please focus on the notes used aside learning the lesson - do they belong to the major scale? smile.gif
3. Rhythm playing - https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Triads..._Series_Part_1/ - this will teach you about how chords are being formed by harmonizing a major scale - I expect your questions of course biggrin.gif
4. Technique - https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...picking-thirds/ - I would like you to work on this one, but not in order to bring it up to speed for now, but play it slow and focus on playing correct and in good timing with the slowest available backing track.

If you begin tomorrow - I am looking forward to receiving your questions and then some recordings of course on which we can discuss and improve your playing on the 3 lessons smile.gif What say you mate? You will have a different glimpse on the major scale after this week if you practice diligently and dedicated smile.gif
