Mixolydian and dominants have never featured much in my playing, so while I know them in theory I haven't used them much in practice.

Mixolydian and dominants have never featured much in my playing, so while I know them in theory I haven't used them much in practice. Both are very used in blues and country so you should master them! https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/mixoly...ed-with-triads/ https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...arpeggio-boxes/ -------------------- My lessons

The acoustic is packed away and my drummer is back so I'm focused and ready to be guided.
I'll post up a rough track with a short solo I composed for a song at church this afternoon, so you can see where I'm at in terms of creativity etc My pentatonics need a lot of work, to break out of the 1st position box and to make my runs and licks more varied, and working up speed (as always) -------------------- My SoundCloud

Hi mate! Thanks for the update. A good way to expand your pentatonic vocabulary would be to learn solos and licks from your favourite guitar players using this scale. Have you done it?

I've just got an Eric Johnson tab book, as some of his runs though pentatonic based sound so much more clever, so I'll be going through that and trying to pick ones I like.
Here's the solo I composed for the song we're doing on Sunday https://soundcloud.com/mattkid/breakeverychain and the song so you have some reference (I've tried to keep the theme close to the melody) The original is about 5 bpm slower but we always seem to things a little faster! -------------------- My SoundCloud

Can you recommend some suitable pentatonic lessons to help me break out of the 1 position box more.
I'll continue trying to find runs etc from solos I like and I'll post them on my thread too. -------------------- My SoundCloud

Hi mate! Have you tried the blues licks of the day?
https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/lick-of-the-day-new/ Learing at least 5 per day could really give you ideas for Pentatonic use. Practising patterns always helps to expand scales: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/pentat...five-positions/ https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...onic-sequences/ and finally learning musical lessons composed with Pentatonic scales. There are lots at GMC, these are some examples: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Robben-Ford-Style/ https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Modern_Blues/ https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Angus-Young-Style/ https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Rockin...nor-pentatonic/ -------------------- My lessons

Thanks Gab a lot of stuff to be working on!
The Pentatonic Patterns in 5 positions is right on the money, I started working on that one this afternoon. 1 of the patterns is good for hybrid picking so I'm incorporating. -------------------- My SoundCloud

I'll post up a take soon, Gab my wife was in a car accident the other day so things are a little all over the place at the moment, Miraculously she walked away with no injuries (the car was upside down).
I found digging about a youtube clip I want to transcribe and learn, there are lots of pentatonics runs and ideas that are very melodic. I will need your help though. I will start transcribing it and posting what i have here, if you could check it and make corrections, that would help me so much. You are probably aware of the clip, it has been posted on GMC before -------------------- My SoundCloud

Hi mate, I saw the thread about your wife. I'm so glad to know that she is ok.
This video is amazing, I think that it's a really cool idea to transcribe it! I will definitely help you checking if there are corrections to do. -------------------- My lessons

Hey Gab here is the cover I'm working on for my first EP
https://soundcloud.com/mattkid/when-you-are-not-enough I'm particularly unhappy with the Bridge, I'm thinking of shortening it to just 2 times rather than the 3, but still unhappy with the build up, it seems to plod along. Also I'm thinking about cutting the solo piano intro in half, I didn't realise the song breaks the 7 minute length The solos and vocals are all rough performances I'm going for an Americana style for the EP, and was trying to keep it fairly raw but I keep adding layers! I think it only exists as a live version
Wow after listening to it, (which I haven't done in a long time, I'm nearly 20 bpm slower!) This post has been edited by PosterBoy: Sep 6 2013, 02:48 PM -------------------- My SoundCloud

Thanks for the link!! Good job on this pre-production! I think that you will have something really cool with some hard work.
You definitely should go for a faster tempo an adjust the structure to make the overall song more funny to hear. I feel that it's too long and as the groove keep all the time the same, the listener could get bored. Another important things to work are: - Drum track: more arrangements, better sound, more groovy. - Bass track: more arrangements and more defined sound. - bridge/part C: I like how it evolves in the original song from a very soft arrangements to a full band. - a shorter intro sounds like a great idea. -------------------- My lessons

I'll get my drummer to help program the drums, I just grabbed some patterns from EZdrummer to start the recording process off.
I'll start working on vocal harmonies too, that should help to give some interest through the song and definitely in the bridge It'll be easier to sing at a faster tempo, my breath control was showing it's flaws at the slow tempo!!! -------------------- My SoundCloud

Backing vocals and some more guitar arrangements could add a lot to the track. Some string arrangements in the chorus could also be cool. -------------------- My lessons
