Do you remember the first time you used Tab to figure out something ?

For me, it was 'Bark at the Moon' by Ozzy Osbourne. I'd printed it off a computer at school wink.gif

My first tab was for the song "The Unforgiven" by Metallica for the solo at 3:25.
Speacking of which, it made me think how easy it is nowadays to find a tab on the net, do you know this website : http://www.songsterr.com/ ?
It's a free online guitar pro combined with a huge database of tabs accessible online...

I remember printing off a load of Yngwie Malmsteen tab thinking 'Yes, now I can get all the secrets of his playing'; and when I got home I just looked at it and thought 'Oh...' mellow.gif

Mine was the late 80's. If I remember right, "Back for the Attack" by Dokken was out and I wanted to learn George Lynch's songs. I couldn't play his lead at all back then but I am happy to say that now....well.....I still can't play his lead. laugh.gif It was in the magazine (yep, no computer) "Guitar for the Practicing Musician."

MORALE OF THIS STORY:

Jon Taylor's "Sticking with the Guitar" series. Lesson 1:
I bought my first guitar in 1988. If I had stuck with it, I would qualify to be an instructor here. As it is, I am just now trying to become a good rhythm player. Even if you have to put it down for a little while, for goodness sakes, don't sell your equipment (unless you have no food for your children)! You will not get what it is worth and, when the desire to play returns, the money for new equipment will probably not be there. I say this from painful experience.

I believe it was the song Comatose by Skillet? I can't remember. I printed off several tabs that day.

First time I really used tabs in order to learn something was when I was working on the Solo in
"Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2" by Pink Floyd. I remember how long it took to actually find one that sounded accurate. Shortly thereafter, I bought a slow down machine and now I use it and when ever I want to learn something I try and write out the tab by hand in a notebook.

I can't remember the exact song that I was trying to learn. I think it might be some blues guitar book with tabs.
First chords song that I learned was Love Me Do by the Beatles and first solo for the song And I Love Her by the same artist. I used tabs in both of these cases.

It got me wondering, when was guitar tablature "invented"???

Unless I can hear it in Powertab or Guitar Pro, I end up more lost than ever when looking at lead tab ohmy.gif .

My first tab was ONE by Metallica, a guy at school gave me a copy, and I was so happy cause I was going to learn it, when I got home looked it and didn't know what to do with all those numbers. Two weeks later my friend gave me a TAB explanation and the secret was revealed.
