Good question? I'd say improvisation. I find I practice sweeps mechanically when warming up a bit by default. I like arpeggios because they sound melodic so I use them a bit but adding extra notes to make them zing! not very good at.

Awesome! I would like you to start with this track!
Here is a blues shuffle! I will create assignments based on it!
http://soundcloud.com/alex-feather-akimov/rockshuffle

It's a standard blues in A
so the chords are A7 - D7 -E7
I would like you to play:
A minor pentatonic in this position over A7

Over D7 D minor pentatonic in this position

E minor pentatonic over E7

I would like you to hit all the changes try to be as melodic as you can and create some cool combinations of those pentatonics!
We will be adding arpeggios in a little bit! smile.gif
Let me know if you have any questions or need help!

Here is one attempt. It's bit of a jam. The F note in the D minor pentatonic isn't working for me so I found I had to avoid that note.
I'm not sure I've got the vibe of the D minor and E minor pentatonic's coming through?

You did a very good job!
I wanted to hear more changes though! Try to use pentatonics and positions I gave you! Also try to build up your solo Question and Answer technique will work perfect for it! Start playing less and gradually develop your solo towards the end!
I recorded my take to give you some ideas!
http://soundcloud.com/alex-feather-akimov/zoom
I have been using the same shapes and scales I gave you! Please continue my solo for the next 12 bars!
After your solo leave the rest of the backing track playing so I can add next take!
Let me know if you have any questions!

Here is a run through of the modes playing with you. Timing is a bit average would like your thoughts.
The hardest thing was figuring out the sequence, which I only fully decided to do today so I'm trying to remember how my times I've played the sequence and how many times on the next one e.t.c. I think when I play it 100 more times I'll have great. smile.gif

I've joined your course at Udemy also and really enjoying it but also I find I get lost to when to change patterns. I'm going through part 2 and it's pushing me speed wise which is great. part 1 all good. smile.gif

You did very well! Some notes are wrong and sometimes it feels like you are trying to catch up to me:) It is absolutely normal and I would like you to continue playing this exercise on a daily basis! This way you will really get it tight and will start seeing results in no time! smile.gif
Thank you for joining my course! smile.gif If part 2 seems a little hard it is normal just do as best as you can and eventually you will get it! While you are working on part 2 don't stop playing through part 1 this way you will get results faster! smile.gif
Let me know if you have any questions or need help with anything!

Hi Alex

Here's another attempt at these modes. I've been playing along with your 100bpm workout on these modes (Udemy) So it's a bit easy at 90bpm although It's still not perfect and the position jumps are a bit harder and also going backwards.

I accidently played a mixolydian over Aeolian at the end but the rest is ok.

Awesome!
I have created a new backing track!
http://soundcloud.com/alex-feather-akimov/chord-progression
The chord progression is:
Dmi - Bb - Gmi - F
I would like you to use D minor pentatonic in two positions:

Try to be as melodic as possible and let me know if you have any questions or need help with anything! smile.gif

Hi Alex

Here is a take. I jammed quite alot over this, in these two postions and I must admit it's a good exercise not to play in the normal pentatonic position. I'm not fully happy with this take. I feel alot of my lead playing lacks purpose. Every now and then I play a nice phase and then back into aimless playing.

Man I can hear so much progress in your playing!!! You did a great job!!!! Absolutely love your take!!!
My suggestion would be start creating a melody instead of a solo think of this track as a song you have to write and you have to create a melody! Also try to sing the melody first and than play it! This trick will help you develop more melodic phrases and you will be training your ear at the same time!

Ok Alex here's a pretty simple idea. I did what you said and just sung over it and then played. I really dug that idea of singing I would never have played like that without doing it. Cool tip. smile.gif

WOw you did very good!!! Great melody and perfect dynamic! Nicely done! I can hear a huge difference in your playing!
Now let's keep the first two runs the same and for the other two try to develop melody a little bit more maybe keep the first half and go higher on the second half? This way it will lead us smoothly to the second part of the solo that we will be adding in a little bit!
Keep it up!!!
