Cool!
Thanks for the feedback man! Much appreciated! I'll do those last tweaks and then call it a day.

I think I'll start on another song. I'll take a couple days off and then start up on it again. Did you have anything in mind or should we just keep going with the list?

Hey Cosmin

Just a quick hello. I been pretty busy lately, so I haven't been able to get much music stuff done. I've barely gotten anything done for the slash song either. I'll hopefully have some done by the end of the week.
Quick theory question though. I was looking at modes again as we looked at a little while ago and going over the strong notes in each mode, I was just wondering what the strong notes would be in the two pentatonic scales. Any thoughts?

Catch you again soon

Hmmmmm, good question here mate smile.gif I never thought about that to be honest, because the notes that make up the pentatonic scales appear in all the modes actually. You know how the minor pentatonic framework supports the minor diatonic modes and the major pentatonic scale supports the major modes, right? The minor pentatonic scale is made up of tones that are basically the strong tones which make up a chord (1 b3 5 and b7). But I think that a note which can stand out especially in the Mixolidian context, would be the b3rd bent to the maj 3rd smile.gif That's a pentatonic trick which emphasizes the mode nicely, for instance.

Speaking of which, tomorrow, we are having a full plate of Mixolydian licks at the v-chat - will you be there?

Cool!
I kinda figured that because they are just the stripped down version of the diatonic scales, that they would share strong notes. Was just wondering if there was something I missed. The raising of the 3rd is a cool idea! Hadn't though of that!

See you in the vid chat tonight

Tim

Howdy Tim - hope you had a good time last night and I am also glad I managed to find an example that had the b3 and 3 altogether, to emphasize on the mode in that way smile.gif

Hi Cosmin

Its been a while. Been busy with all kinds of stuff lately. Plus the sun is making a comeback, so im making the most of that!

I decided to start a fresh lately, I was getting tired of all my practice and study schedules so I decided to scrap them and start new things. more fun things. It was getting to a point where music was becoming a chore and not fun anymore. (don't worry, ill get back to the lessons you assignsed me, just in the future)

I've noticed that some basic elements of my playing are lacking, especially playing songs and switching parts smoothly as I dont really play any actual whole songs. I also think I have some timing issues sometimes. I would like to improve my overall smoothness and flow in my playing, and maybe play more confidently.
So i've decided to start some easy difficulty "in the style of lessons"They're usually quite fun, and they can get some new ideas into my playing.

So here's one I got started with, It sounded easy, but getting the timing and grove right was tricky. I think the timing was slightly off in a couple parts. If you have any suggestions on fun lessons to improve fundamentals, send them my way!

Also, your video chats have been great the last few weeks, Im really getting a lot out of studying the Licks each week!

Otherwise all is good around here, Hope all is good for you there

Tim

Hey Tim! Right you are smile.gif Usually, playing whole songs will develop a great set of techniques while keeping you in tip top shape for real performance!

In my opinion, this rendition is very good - I tried to see where the timing issues appear, but I had no success. Any hints? I am curious to see what you heard when listening to yourself smile.gif

As for a nice groovy riff oriented 'in the style of' lesson - how about this one? https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/rhythm-gu...a-style-lesson/ I heard a lot of interesting things happening in there, maybe you will like them too biggrin.gif

Glad you liked those licks, for me it was a great journey on enriching my vocabulary and I thought it would make great v-chat material for you guys as well biggrin.gif

Hey Cosmin,

After listening back to it again, i didnt really notice any problems with the timing. I was having trouble getting a good take though, there were always small errors here and there.
I'll put the pantera lesson on my list, sounds pretty groovy!

I'll keep you posted as i work through the lessons

Catch you around
Tim

Hey Cosmin!

Well, after yet another delay I am back for good I hope!

I looked back through my thread and decided to keep going with the Pantera lesson you suggested. Its coming along nicely!

Ive also decided to keep going with recording of cover songs which I got going on earlier this year. Ive nearly got the drums ready for the next song, Once thats done, I'll start getting some guitars recorded on to it.

If you've got any other suggestions, ideas or directions in mind please let me know.

Tim

Hey Cosmin,

Just a quick update, As we talked about, im going to start on some "Slow" Picking exercises. This is the main one i'll be tackling https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...ernate-workout/ Nice and slow to start with though tongue.gif Once I get comfortable at it at a slow speed, ill do a rec of it so you can check that my picking technique is all good .

Also Ive noticed that the "pantera" leeson you recomendend me doesn't have a useable backing track. the one there has guitars over it which kind of defeats the purpose of the REC. What do you reckon?

Otherwise, im keepin plenty busy

Tim

Absolutely brilliant lesson - practiced it myself and it is quite a challenge biggrin.gif

I am very much looking forward to seeing you in action with it and in respect to the Pantera tune - check this out: http://www.guitarbackingtrack.com/bts/Pantera.htm all the backing tracks in here that were made by a dude called 'OrangeGoblin' are the actual tracks recorded by the guys, WITHOUT the guitars biggrin.gif This is what I used to prepare myself for the Pantera tribute gig I had in September!

Hey Mr Cosmin!

Ive got a quick video for you!

http://youtu.be/DhU6BQjOtHk

Ive worked the alt picking lesson up to 70bpm and thought Id share it to get some feedback on my technique.
Its still a little bit rough round the edges, but its coming along.
See what you think

Hey mate! I think your picking is clean and the timing great! Nevertheless there are three aspects which need to be taken care of in order to increase the efficiency - will make a quick vid for ya wink.gif

Awesome!

I had a feeling that something wasn't quite right, as I've been stuck on a few lessons for what seems like forever and I just cant get them up to speed and still be able to play it smoothly. Its pretty frustrating!

I look forward to seeing the video!

Howdy Tim - here it is smile.gif It is indeed a very demanding lesson - stamina and relaxation plus movement efficiency are the key here:
