What do you guys think of pentatonic shapes fingering? you prefer 3 fingers or 4? I saw some famous metal players who use only 3 fingers so I was like ohh is this the reason they play faster and shit?

Naturally, you'll have more strength using 1-3, and if the stretch isn't too big and it's comfortable, I don't see why not smile.gif

Comes down to preference, I play most of the 4 fret shapes as 1-4, but if it's giving me trouble, I'll switch to 1-3, whatever's most efficient in that spot on the fretboard.

There isn't one correct way for this. I use both depending on the part of the fretboard that I'm playing. In the lower frets I use 1 and 4 while in the higher frets I use 1 and 3 because I feel more comfortable. If you practice, you will be able to play fast in both options.

When you do 3 notes per string shapes it is easier to play economy picking
That's why a lot of metal players do that!

Yeah, what Gabriel said smile.gif

If you're exploring some Paul Gilbert pentatonic shapes - the 3 note per string kind, then that is a different approach of playing pentatonics and you'll definitely want to employ all your digits for that ! wink.gif

Exactly! Three notes per string pentatonic sounds great and you have to use 1 3 4 or 1 2 4 depending on the shape that you are playing.
