I live in St. Louis, Missouri and I've just started playing guitar. My first guitar was an Ibanez acoustic starter pack from my local music store. The guitar is decent and I bought it to prove to myself that I had the commitment to stick with something - all my life I've played around with various instruments, but I've never "stuck with" anything long enough to get a sense of satisfaction or accomplishment.

Along with my acoustic, I bought a dvd and a book for beginners, put out by Warner. While informative, I never really progressed and I remained someone who just piddled around. I could al-l-l-lmost play Tequila Sunrise by the Eagles after about two months and I begin to get discouraged. I decided what I needed was to determine what I really wanted to do with the guitar. After considering the question, I decided what I really wanted to do was learn to play the music I really love: classic rock, metal, arena rock. Screaming electric guitar solos, ripping shreds, ear-smacking stuff that I loved to listen to. I almost lost heart at this point - based on how difficult a time I was having learning simple strumming, I have high doubts about being able to play this level of guitar. However, I didn't want to back out of something yet again, so I began to search around. I found Guitar Master class while I was hunting on the net and it really inspired me. I gave it some thought and decided to take the plunge.

This last weekend, I bought a used Epiphone Sg Special and a used Fender amp and purchased a subscription to the site, so here I am. Whacking away, trying not to get frustrated at the scales and how much I have in front of me - I'm struggling to play on time with the metronome!

More importantly, I'm enjoying having my guitar and plink-plinking around. I've grounded myself in the belief that if I can just stay with it, I will eventually improve and be able to play with my friends, which is my ultimate goal. Will I stay with it? I hope so - there's a lot on the site I want to learn!

So, here's my "hello, I'm a complete beginner" speech - I'm hoping to come back and reflect on this post in the future with a big grin as I can see a sense of accomplishment in what I'm doing. Now, back to the A minor penatonic scale.. plink... plink.. plink...
