A young family friend of ours was on TV yesterday. She was a contestant in the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition.

She's Molly and she is a marimba and percussion player. She was in the category final for percussion - she didn't win but nonetheless she did amazingly well to have reached that stage. She had to play a 20 minute set on marimba and percusiion and the judges were particuarly positive about the musicality of her performance.

She starts her undergraduate degree in music in September and wants to go on to be a professional classical musician.

This is her here

Thanks Ben. She's quite a quiet and shy girl so being in the spotlight wasn't that much fun for her. She also normally specialises on the marimba and I think that the insistance that she had to play other percussion instruments as well didn't help her. She did really well though nonetheless smile.gif
