For all those audiophile freaks out there, I salute you!
Sound Card vs Onboard I've been living happily with my pc motherboards onboard realtek 5.1 surround for a while now, but just recently got my dirty little grubby paws on a Creative X-Fi Titanium HD, featuring THX Trustudio Pro Technology! Creative and Sound Blaster normally suck to be honest, but this sound card is in a league of it's own with, 24-bit 192kHz, 0.001% THD (total harmonic distortion) compared to the average 10% of distortion. Dolby Digital Live or DTS Connect 5.1 Surround Superior High Fidelity audio performance. Also as EAX Advance HD for sound positioning in games, etc. It's really something your'll never notice or really care / think about till you hear and compare the difference, then you will never return. I can hear things in music/games/movies which where noticed before, I jumped into a FPS (first person shooter) game and actually got scared (I don't scare easy and love horrors) by the huge monster stomps actually shaking the floor through the sub-woofer and the most realistic shotgun ringing out right behind my head! You can hear things in music which you couldn't even notice before. It brings the same audio experience found in live performances, movie cinemas, and even recording studios! Anyone else beefed up their sound system? Consider getting a high quality sound card to go with it, as it will breath it life! I'm sure some of you might have setup high quality sound systems for your pc, ipod or studio, what's everyone else got? -------------------- Play Games Arcade Take a break, Play Games! Two different set ups:
1/ Main mastering PC - no on board sound or sound card. Input is a Prism Orpheus via FW here. Orpheus does the i/o for external mastering hardware (eq,comps etc.) as it acts as an in line 8 channel i/o with 4 preamps. That lets us use several different chains for hardware i/o and also means that we can run the signal from a passive EQ in to the Prism. We sometimes - not often - gainstage the Prism to deliberately clip the ADC to get volume on a master. Stereo main output is a Lavry Black DAC 11 here. Stereo out is on balanced XLR to ATC SCM Pro monitors here. We also occassional run headphones via the Lavry. 2/ Back up and storage plus occasional mixing and stem mastering pc: no on board sound In/out - 2xRME HDSP 9652 digital interface (64 channel lightpipe and AES/EBU) that is internal on a PCi. RME connects to a variety of external devices as needed including a layered 32 channel digital mixing desk and a Lavry Blue. -------------------- Get your music professionally mastered by anl AES registered Mastering Engineer.
