Hey everyone, I already own a studio 22+ and I absolutely love it, I have a SOB in my sights but there is alot of different opinions out there about these amps, unfortunately the one I'm looking at is too far away for me to go and play with, has anyone on here had any experience with these old tone monsters? if so I'd love to hear what you have to say about them.
cheers
Pat

I have found that the SOB is better for hard rock. You might be able to get some good thrash metal tones out of it, but nothing too over the top.

If you aren't really thinking about playing large gigs, check out the Krank Rev Jr. It is a badass little machine within the same price range. I had a chance to play one when my band went to Arizona a couple months ago to pickup our new Krankentstein+ Amplifiers(we were endorsed by Krank) and the Rev Jr really stood out. It had a killer metal tone. I liked it better than some of their full-sized amps, hahaha.

My amp technician at Krank uses it for some of the smaller venues his band plays when there isn't a lot of time or space for larger amps.

Hmm, I forgot about the krank jr, I've never tried one but I have played through a full size version and I really liked it, I guess I'm just so impressed with the Studio 22+ that I love all Mesa products instantly smile.gif another little amp I've been looking at is the Hughes & Kettner Tubemeister, I've tried one in my local shop through one of my home made 1x12 cabs and i was impressed with the amount of gain but wiht only 18w the clean headroom was minimal. I like the clean tone (from what I've heard on youtube) on the SOB so I've been thinking that maybe a good tube dist. pedal infront would sound pretty good. But hey, cheers for your feedback Nihilist, much appreciated.

Hard to go wrong with a Mesa or a KRANK smile.gif I'm using a clean power head and a multi fx pedal but I"m all for BIG IRON amps for gigging. I just bought a TONE LAB EX from VOX which I am shocked to find out does quite serious Metal/Lead/Rythm tones. Who knew? Been a convert for only a couple of hours since leaving Guitar Center.

Recently purchased, and am currently (immediately) selling a Mesa Studio Caliber DC-2. Doesn't have enough power to hold the cleans loud enough for shows.

Other than that, I LOVE it, and most Mesa amps.
