Nice on all counts. I would prefer having one of each Depends on how you want to look on stage, and what genre you're gonna play. Obviously the LP has the blues rock look, sound and attitude. It would look odd shredding Yngvie stuff on it. On the other hand, the other guitars would look funky playing classic rock - which is why I would keep the LP and save for one of the others. Never hurts to have more than one axe, and use the one on stage that fits the genre. Of course, I'm big on stage presence these days - it's all about looks (as well as sound of course).
oh, choices choices choices! -------------------- The more I practice, the more I wish I had time to practice!

Whoa man! If it was me it would be a no brainer, keep that Les Paul. If anything you should be the one getting the 500 and the guitar on that trade not the other way around. Les Pauls (especially customs ) are like fine wine man they are worth more the older they get, Maybe you should get it appraised? I'll bet its worth more now than when you bought it. But hey thats just me. To each his own.
It really only comes down to what you want. PS I just did a search for a 1986 Les Paul Custom on ebay. I only found one. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Original-1...=item46053e1815 You have to go with your heart Robert ! P.S. Who else thought this thread title was comparing the real Petrucci vs the real Les Paul ?? I did I did! |

I would say if you rarely use the LP or have something against it then trade it in.
Gibson LPs are great guitars don't get me wrong at all, but once you get use to playing with a thinner neck they become more of a hassle then anything. I bought one back in 2008 it was pretty much the last time they did the white body / chrome hardware setup. But a few months ago I picked up an Ibanez S. Well after using it I never wanted to play the LP due to the neck thickness. So I traded it in for a PRS CE24 and I have not once ever regretted that decision. It all comes down to what feels better in your hands. -------------------- Guitars:
