So I randomly came across a Facebook post about a new Manowar album. I had no idea there was one out so I checked it out..

It has probably the weirdest bass tone ever..

And as if that wasn't weird enough... Manowar are collaborating on a forthcoming movie with Jean Claude Van Damme. Surreal is the word that comes to mind ! biggrin.gif

Haha, I know a true metal enthusiast at GMC who will like this laugh.gif

The bass tone is really interesting, sounds kinda distorted with something else mixed into it.

Manowar and JCVD...sounds logical.

I guess it kinda does.

So.. this week has given us a Steve Harris solo album and a Manowar + JCVD combo. Seriously, nothing can surprise me after this. biggrin.gif

Yeah, this could only be topped by two headlines:

"Kirk Hammett kicked out...Dave Mustaine to take his spot in Metallica"

and

"Axl Rose and Slash friends again - G'n'R touring with old, legendary line-up (support act: Metallica)"

I love metal, and I like Manowar, I used to hear a lot the album Kings Of Metal... but I found a bit boring and frustrating to find this new song and read again the word "Steel" in the tittle... maybe metalheads will hate me but I wonder.... why do they always talk about the same thing?

Because Metal music lyrics are bout Brotherhood , Friendship and Steel !!
And MAnowar is metal with real meaning - their songs aren't just random rhyming words put together, but actually tell a nice story or send a message ,
metal that isn't made just to appeal to the brainless masses, but made because it's what the musicians want to do, and they will display their artistic music to the truly devoted fans.
metal that stays true to its style, no matter what the current trend is !!

That's what real metal really is, brothers!!

Because it's TRUE METAL MAN!!!!

You are damn fuckin right man! ^^ I love MANOWAR, especially older sftuff like Hail and Kill and so on. But the politics of the band in the last 10(or more) years are a shame. For me once they were the kings of metal, now they are the clowns of metal and the masters of selling the same again and again. I didn't buy the Battle Hymns remake and I most likely won't buy this one either. But nevertheless I really do love their music and lyrics as well. Of course they are just using the same words and phrases all the time, but that's exactly what I expect from them. It's like Running Wild, always the same but always awesome, at least to me smile.gif

In this spirit, hold your hammers high

Yeah man, you're so right but the music industry nowadays really sucks and it's hard to retain the quality of the albums the made in 80's and 90's.
I also adore German power metal bands like Running Wild, Heaven's Gate , Gamma Ray, Stormwitch, and i'm not happy that Running Wild didn't make quality album since The Black Hand Inn , in fact the last album Shadowmaker is totall junk

Yeah, i also bought Victory and Brotherhood cd's when they came but wasn't much excited when i heard them., i think they started using rhytm machine instead of real drums on those albums

Tragedy with the newest album Shadowmaker - starts from the cover and goes on with music...

yeah, I like when bands really keep their essence and thoughts... but I also like when bands are creative and keep on developing their own style... a good example is Iron Maiden, they always kept their essence with some differences or evolution, while their lyrics usually talk about different stories, concepts... I would feel bored if they talked about the number of the beast or about being fear of the dark in every new album... does it make sense?

by the way I understand the concept of "true metal", I don't think that a band that doesn't talk about brother and steel is fake but I respect what you think. wink.gif

Once again guys,,, I love metal, I'm just sharing my point of view. smile.gif

No, last time I went to a festival was Wacken in 2002.

@Gab: I agree in you in general, but Manowar for me is kind of a special. An Exception. They really celebrate this "true metal, kings of metal, we are the truest motherfuckers of the world, born to rock drink and fuck" image from the very beginning without compromise, that any change now would be weird to me. But for example In Flames changed a lot from the first album to the lastest and I appreciate their progression very much, but with Manowar it's different. Just my personal point of view, but a new ablum title of them wouldn't contain the words "steel" or "hell" or something similair, well, it would be kind of weird to me ^^

But anyway it seems that I'm conservative when it comes to music. I never thought about so far, but for example, if I listen to Iron Maiden it's almost always the old stuff.

If we're brutally honest with ourselves, most of what we buy into in this life is fantasy. Anyone that talks about 'a way of life' is always talking out of their backsides, it's got nothing to do with a way of life. All great art (including music, movies, books) and also hobbies and interests all cater to our self image that we have of ourselves. Our self image is not 'real', it's just how we think of ourselves. I think that's why we love metal bands and their conceptual lyrics. (and all other music) They take us to somewhere else for a while, they let us live out that fantasy in our minds. Even if people insist that they're not into the the escapism or fantasy of it, and they relate instead to the anger or being pumped up etc, they're still relating to the fantasy because what's connected with them is something that was created out of someone's mind.

When I say the word fantasy I don't mean mythology and dragons and fairies, I mean it in the purest sense of the word.. a 'creation of the mind' or something like that. A song about men wearing suits and working in a bank is still a fantasy because it was an imaginary creation.

I think that indulging our imaginary fantasies and interests is vey important to getting the most out of life. Whatever brings you happiness and inspires you in a positive way is a good thing and can contribute to your quality and experience of life. Positive fantasy doesn't have to mean all 'goodness and light' either. For example, if I can indulge my interest in the idea of a double agent travelling the world and killing bad guys in hand to hand combat then it's still a positive fantasy in that it inspired me and satisfies a certain taste that I have in entertainment.

I'm not really making a point of anything with this post, it's more of an observation.. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts too smile.gif

Yeah man, when we talk about maiden, they haven't done anything interresting since Virtual XI album, these new stuff they're doing is just recycling old stuff in a bad way... Sorry Iron Maiden purists, but this is my way of thinking, they made themselves real high standards in the past which they simply can't preserve nowadays...

It's true that they made a real high standard! but there are some interesting things in their music after Virtual (which I don't like).

This album has some beautiful and epic songs...

To each there own really, not everyone likes the evolution a band takes and nobody hears the same thing really. I personally think Brave New World is a flawless record, the "Thin Line Between Love And Hate" is so unearthly beautiful, absolutely gorgeous.

And "The Final Frontier", for me, easily on part with Powerslave.

All that matters is that we have the music we do enjoy, whenever we want it smile.gif
