Guys, last evening was very important to me, as I had my first Kenjutsu/ Iaido training session (Yes, Ben, I DID IT, FINALLY! biggrin.gif)

The Sensei is a very cool guy, who has been training with a very respected Japanese master swordsman - I might be mistaken, but out of what I have understood, the old dude is a direct descendant of the Musashi school of swordsmanship. So far, so good!

All I did for one hour and a half was learning stances, pacing, the correct grip of the sword and two types of swings. I didn't think it would've been that tiresome, but after the training I realized that my back and my feet were killing me.

There are so many details in this art, it's just like practicing guitar smile.gif

The way you hold the pick - The way you hold the sword
The way you pick - The way you swing

And I am certain that the more I will get into it, I will be able to make analogies and learn easier, just because I can relate to what I know from playing the guitar! It feels wonderful and it doesn't make me feel so silly for not practicing any other sort of martial arts before tongue.gif

Just wanted to share my happiness with you guys!

Cosmin

Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude !! WOO ! I'm really happy you did it biggrin.gif

I too began to draw comparisons between what I was learning in the martial arts to guitar playing.

I can truly imagine how sore it would make your muscles... holding a serious slice of wood and turning it around yourself would seriously work them out. Awesome !! cool.gif

I hope this is the beginning of a long and really interesting journey for you my friend ! smile.gif

Thank you, my British brother!

Tonight, before picking up my girl from work, I will practice in the garden! I also want to start practicing guitar in the garden, just for the sake of being in an open space and feeling the open stage dynamics better!

Tell me Ben, how are you faring with the martial arts training sessions?

You seemed very much into it and started progressing, out of what I have noticed and I was curious to know if you went ahead with it.

Hope you won't leave it aside smile.gif Anyway, I am looking forward to my training session on Monday evening! biggrin.gif woohoooo

I'm still into it all, no worries there smile.gif Look forward to hearing more about your swordplay !! biggrin.gif

P.S. I'm interested in the fact that you mentioned you're studying something that incorporates Iaido and Kenjutsu. From what I know, Iaido is the more ceremonial art of drawing the sword etc.. whereas Kenjutsu is actually learning techniques for combat... it's very cool if you're getting that too ! smile.gif

Well, out of what I understand, Iaido is the modern conception which came with the separation of the art of drawing and the actual fighting art, but in Hyoho Niten Ichi Ryu (Musashi's school), the forms include Batto Jutsu and Ken Jutsu, which deal with both drawing and cutting in the same time, as with actual duel forms.

The stubbier guy which does the talking and the sword ass kicking, is my Sensei. After researching a bit about him, I found out that he is the official representative and chief (Shibu Chou) of the Hyoho Niten Ichi Ryu in Romania - so, I can only be glad to be able to study THE REAL thing, so far away from Musashi's land smile.gif
