Ok, I opened the backing in my daw and started experimenting over it. I first recorded some triadic arpeggios to give the idea some movement (it's too static) and then improvised some melodies over it. Maybe this can give you some ideas to start searching for your solo. Tell me what you think!

great ideas!!!
it has a very cool feeling.. and a great guitar tone/effect - is this a reverb/delay? (what settings?).. and the ending part fits great to lead to the next part...
are you playing the c major scale? (I really suck at playing what I hear)..
I will try some ideas during the next days.....

Hi mate! I'm using E minor scale. The triads that I play are (in order): Em - D - C - Em.

I used my POD hd500 (do you have this device? I can share the patch). The amp selected is a Mesa Boogie Rectfier emulation. The effect that you hear there is a delay that I added to the mix in the Daw. Here you can check a print screen to see the settings:

I can also share the isolated tracks if you need it. Just let me know! wink.gif

thanks for the infos!!!

I dont have a pod hd500 - I have a boss gt-10.. I will try to find a sound that fits... and I will play the em scale over the track and see what I can come up with..

so you added the delay in the mix and not in the actual signal?

yes, I usually do that when I'm composing / recording at the same time. Even more when the effect is more a mix effect than a musical effect.

Check out the amp setting that will surely help you to find somethings similar with your Boss.

Well, what about designing some kind of diary guitar plan? Any topics that you would like to work?

diary guitar plan? can you tell me more about that?

the topics I need to work on are:
now what to play when it comes to creating solos
arpeggios I have not done much so far
and of course different techniques and playing them "clean" - as opposite to sloppy

Hi mate! A guitar plan would be a program to be working every day, it is usually called "guitar routine", but I'm trying to start avoiding this word (routine) because I don't like the real meaning of it related to making music. The idea is that you have a guide with topics and exercises that you should practice every day in order to achieve short and long term goals.

What do you think?

sounds great but I do not have time to practice guitar every day....
there are often weeks where I can only practice once a week for an hour or so,....so I need more of a weekly routine.....

Ok! Please let me say that when it is related to "technique", this will a disadvantage for you because, the best way to see real results is with diary practice. Even 10 or 15 minutes every day would make the difference. Regarding other topics like scales, improvisations and composition, your mind keeps on working every day and the results are more possible to achieve with one or two sessions a week.

I am afraid I will not be able to do 15 minutes a day (I have to travel and there are other work and familiy related issues that keep me from practicing)...
so a routine for creativity, improvising, scales and composition could be a great idea

I contributed two solos to the last 2 collabs (do you have them?)
and there are some solos played live here:

Hi mate! Cool stuff! You look very confident on stage and that's very important. There are two things that first come to mind when I hear your solos. Your technique could be polished, and the ideas could be also polished to made them more defined. Sometimes the solos lack some direction from my point of view.

2 questions:

1. What do you think of what I said? What do you think your soloing is lacking?
2. Post 5 of your all time favorite solos.

you totally hit the spot!!!

I have many "fillers" between passages that I like and want to get rid of the fillers and build good solos with a storyline...

concerning my technique: especially in a live situation I play very, very sloppy and I know I have to work on it..

5 all time fav solos: very tricky questions
- the solospot of adrian smith in "dance of death" ( actually I like all of his solos cause he always has a good structure - I could name a lot of great solos of adrian smith))
- for the love of god by steve vai (which doesn´t count cause its an instrumental and no actual solo)
- mr. crowley (of course!!!) (and most of randy rhoads and zakk e. lee solos of ozzy)
- dont talk to strangers - dio
- crying in the rain - whitesnake

just to name a few,....
In addition I really like andy timmons (excellent tone)

and of course... dozens of more

mr. crowley I did only try some parts and I learnt the beginning of for the love of god...
the other ones I didn´t learn

and when I think about it, I didn´t learn many solos from famous songs.... don´t know why but somehow I didn´t

Ok! So let's start learning one of them. Learn the licks, and try to analyze the concept behind it: What scales are used? What's the chord progressions? What notes are played over each chord? And post here your conclusions. Try to find a backing track for the solo / song at youtube for practice.
