Please suggest new songs in that area for my band to play
I have no records so it's a bit difficult, I had "Dark Side of the moon" on LP when I was younger but for some reason I went curious on how it looks when a LP breaks and I chose to smash that one "Money" is cool. Any more? We're adding a couple Whitesnake and an Ozzy song or two and one Judas Priest, so that part is no problem. -------------------- My bands homepage

If you want a 20 minute instrumental try Shine on you crazy diamond from "Wish You Were Here"
Another brick in the wall part II is a classic with a lovely Gilmore Solo to get into (helps if you have a choir of school kids though) Comfortably Numb from The Wall has already been mentioned - Epic guitar solo in that one Run Like Hell from the Wall if you want to get your echo on Money from Dark Side of the Moon is interesting because its in 7/4 time apart from the solo I could go on - love Floyd This post has been edited by Andrew Cockburn: Jun 15 2007, 03:42 AM -------------------- Check out my Instructor profile

Something by the Replacements. Such as "Bastards of Young". But they had a lot of stuff. Only you have to all take downers and get drunk to play them in the same fashion as they did on stage. And one of you has to eventually die of an overdose.
edit: Replacements are my second all time favorite band after the Beatles. Only had one top of the charts songs "I'll Be You", but a half a dozen great albums before they self destructed. Very influential, yes Nirvana clearly listened to them quite a bit. Here is the band doing the above song, and someone else doing a cover. The prose of Westerberg's in the song writing is unsurpassed in my view, but you won't be able to understand them. I would never accuse them of being great musicians, but they were great song writers, both tunes and prose. and had the attitude. Not exactly punk, i would call it more a "not quite punk" attitude. Original: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCN1NHy-Lh4...ted&search= A cover by some band i never heard of (not bad) http://youtube.com/watch?v=FaiX0VqkV0c&...ted&search= and a more radio friendly song (probably my very favorite all time lyrics of any song). I think this is after the band broke up, Westerberg playing a replacements song with a different band. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUv2c8CrlT8...ted&search= This post has been edited by fkalich: Jun 15 2007, 06:30 AM |

Thanks to everyone! This is the result.
Another brick in the wall (with a shool kids choir) Comfortably numb Run like Hell Money What do you want from me Wish you were here The great gig in the sky To get a female singer was suggested…. Hmmmm… sounds like a plan ;-) Or we take our male singer and squeeze his balls really really hard. Bastards of Young – will concider it, it rocks. Megadeth and Pantera... works for me but our bass player will just look puzzled and wonder who they are and our singer used to listen to Yazoo, Kraftwerk, Depeche mode will just get cracky I've managed to get both of them to play 80's metal and that's quite the archivement, I won't push it too much. YET! Depeche mode btw... any cool songs from there? -------------------- My bands homepage

Back to topic. This thread with it's original topic is still interesting to me so I'd rather see fkalich new discussion in a separate thread. So PLEASE everyone. Stay on topic in this thread. Thanks! well ok mickeM. since you started the thread, i will accept that. and good for you to slap me around. we need more of that here, when people are overly cordial, i don't think much communication is occurring. are you interested in being a cover band, or am more indie type band? to an extent, you have to be one or the other, two very different audiences. i don't know that you can really mix them all that much. i will assume most here want to be original, if possible, not mainstream. here are two links to amazon the first is the cd generally thought by most as the replacement's best, "Let it Be". http://www.amazon.com/Let-Be-Replacements/...7384&sr=8-3 The second it to a similar type band, Husker Du. http://www.amazon.com/Zen-Arcade-H%C3%BCsk...7384&sr=8-3 These are bands most people are not familiar with. But if you look, both have 5-star ratings with about 100 reviews on amazon. Very few things get 5-star ratings like that. Another clue is the fact that the cheapest used price is $10, not 10 cents like most stuff this old. Anybody that has these CD's, wants to keep them. The critics all loved these bands, but they were mostly relegated to the "left of the dial", the college scene. i don't know if they are like pf and u2 exactly, more of a beat to their music most of the time. but they influenced bands that did become mainstream, such as Nirvana, and Green Day, and should be listened to. Amazon has 30 second clips, or you can do a search on youtube to hear some of their stuff. Listen to "Favorite Thing" on "Let it Be". I think most audiences would like that, although nobody has heard it. edit: bit more. if you look hard, you can find songs that NOBODY does, nobody would be caught dead doing, but you do it in your own way, and it is cool. Here is Westerberg doing a Monkee's song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=40vhaC2SmPk...ted&search= Liz Phair did a Monkee's song also, i forget which one. another old Replacements song, recent i think (not too recent, i read on the gibson site that he accidentally drove a screwdriver though his hand and would not be playing guitar for awhile.) This is a neat song, here he is totally unaccompanied, just playing a fender by himself. This would be a really neat song done by a good band, and nobody has heard of it. Many good songs out there that nobody has heard. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOb4D1YhQoU This post has been edited by fkalich: Jun 22 2007, 12:54 PM |

I will disagree about REM. Terrible band. Same lame sound, melodramatic singer, popular with the college crowd. The song "shiney happy people holding hands"?? WTF??? And the video to that song... totally queer. No comparison to U2. There is a huge difference in the U2 of the 80's compared to today. Personally, I like the older stuff but I think they have done a good job adapting to today's sound and they are still going strong. I'll be the evil biatch here...
