I'd appreciate some opinions on guitars.

I'm searching for a new electric guitar, and I am somewhat limited by what my local stores have in stock (I must try before I buy!). I am looking for an aggressive sounding, fast guitar with a whammy bar. A shred guitar.

I was thinking of a Dean, but those are more expensive, and I don't want the EXACT guitar Dime used (even though I'm a huge fan).

I was also considering a Jackson, but did not have a particular model in mind.

I was looking at Ibanez RG tremolo and RG prestige, but I hear the stock pickups are terrible.

Finally, I saw the Schecter Hellraiser C-1 FR, original Floyd Rose, active EMGs with a battery compartment on the back and all. However, Schecter is not as well known as the other companies so I am hesitant.

I can't really use a V shaped guitar because it has to be playable sitting down.

Oh, and my budget is UP TO $1000 IF I HAVE TO (I don't want to have to go that deep into my savings unless I really deem in necessary).

Any tips, thoughts or other suggestions? I really appreciate it.

with a 1000 bucks you can get a great guitar!

the dean ml (dimes guitar) is extremely playable very comfortable and has amazing tone! i would recommend you try it!

and another thing dont be afraid to buy a guitar from an unknown company. when you buy from ibanez or gibson or fender etc. you pay a lot just for the logo of the company on your guitars head. famous guitarists who use those guitars are payed to play them...

try every guitar you can an dont buy one before you have tryed it!
you might find the volume knob stuck in a wrong place, body\neck not right for you... dont go and buy one just cause steve vai uses it, buy it because you find it comfortable and perfect for you!

here are some links of guitars you might be interested in:

I own an ERG custom guitar and i think their the best!

anyway.. try out your guitar before you buy it (unless its a custom and than you dont have to worry about a thing)

hope this helps..

A few general comments ... (I don't own any of these guitars and I am recycling the opinions of others!)

Some of the Ibanez Prestige line are in your price range - great guitars by all accounts.

Schecter, although not well known are great value for money, meaning you pay less to get a guitar of comparative quality to say an Ibanez - I would definately get a Schecter if I couldn't afford an Ibanez. I would probably get a Schecter of equivalent price to a non-prestige Ibanez and end up with a better guitar.

I find a Fender Stratocaster nice and easy to use, at a low price.

Like andrew said, schecter is a great company, im buying a schecter avenger really soon, i currently own a Schecter damien 7 ( 7 string) if your looking for a cheaper schecter go with a C-1 or an OMEN or a Demon, i know inmy local guitar shop they have a couple of Omens and Demons, ive played them both and they are a great aggressive guitar, not as great feeling as an ibanez but it you don't like the intence action( like me) then this is a great guitar. Jackson is another great company, my second favorite, ive got a js30 which is a great starting guitar around 300canadian , if you are looking to spend a bit more the Jackson soloist lightweight ( i also own 1 biggrin.gif, i spend everything i make on guitars) this is a great aggressive guitar great for metal. again the action is not as fast as that of an ibanez but its a really nice guitar with really nice tone. if you decide to conform to the rest of the world and get a great shredder guitar go with ibanez, if not schecter or jackson are both great choices smile.gif

Here are the Jackson and Schecter sites so you can browse around a bit smile.gif
www.jacksonguitars.com
www.schecterguitars.com

the schecter c1 is a great choice HELLRAISERS FOREVER smile.gif

How is the neck on the Schecter? It seemed a bit thicker that the Ibanez and Deans and Jacksons.

I hear the stock pickups on the Ibaznez RG guitars are very poor.

Also, the soloists seem to be a bit expensive.

most of the guitars from ibanez are amazing for the price. i paid 250 for an rg without the locking tremolo, and it was a great beginners guitar. for your budget, id suggest an rg with a locking trem (400-600$ american) or one of the s or s prestige series (450-1250) they are incredibly thin, very easy trem, and the 799$ comes with EMG p.u.'s (great tone, imo) they both sound excellent.

Schecter necks are a bit thicker, it really reminds me of the jackson neck, but even though its thicker its still very easy to play smile.gif, its alot nicer to chord than to shred but im hopeing the hellcaster Avenger changes my opinion of that smile.gif the thickness is not substantial enough to concern yourself with though, its roughly the same as a jackson except rounder.

The Jackson DKMG Dinky looks promising... EMG 81/85 combo, fast neck, trem bar (although licensed).

Anyone have this axe?

By the way, I need my trem bar to go up as well as down. Does this Jackson do that? I assume the Schecter does because it is a real Floyd Rose (am I right)?

Alright guys, I have it narrowed down to two guitars. The Dean Razorback and the Schecter Hellraiser C-1 FR. I know, I know, the Schecter has better features and is $300 cheaper, BUT, I like the neck on the Dean better, and that is a big factor.

Or, the Dean FDB tribute ML (more or less the same as the Dime-O-Flame, but I think that one is ugly).

What do you guys think?

The FR on the Hellraiser definitely goes up and down, not sure about the other. Just be careful if you buy a licensed FR since they sometimes cheap out on components and cut corners to save money leaving nothing but issues. To be safe, Floyd Rose Original is your best bet.

I can't find it on any web sites, I'm not surprised because you said "limited edition". Thanks anyway.
