Either an amp with an already built in sound like that, like a nice Krank, Marshall, Crate, Or Line 6 Stack or Half-stack.

Or if you can't afford one of those, try this.

Metal = Overdrive of somesort + distorsion petal of sum sort or amp built in, like the Uncreator said, krank marshal or line 6 + a few others all have good built in distorsion, i use krank amp + krank Distortus Maximus pedal smile.gif but u can get a cheap like boss distorsion pedal or boss overdrive pedal to get you the same Metal sound.

Once you have distortion, tweaking the EQ on the amp can help too.

I've always found that cranking the bass and treble, while killing the midrange gives you that good Judas Priest, Metallica and Iron Maiden type of sound.

I have a line 6 guitar port which works with your computer, and I have a line 6 spider amp which has 8 or so built in models (clean, blues, crunch, metal, insane, each has 2 settings)

I really like the Line6 stuff.

Depends on the amp you got. Cranck the post or gain. But maybe your amp can't produce that exact metal sound you're looking for?
