Sword fencing does not make you slim unfortunately smile.gif But you can pump iron/ use functional training and have an awesome shape, aside from polishing your reflexes and strategic thinking by practicing fencing.

But really effective... Omote tatami are the rice rugs around a bamboo pole which you usually see in Tameshigiri demonstrations. It is said that they replicate the consistency of the human body..

Although I will say one thing. A physically fit, strong and exceptional martial artist is no match for a sword ! It's always said that although fitness is necessary to be a competitive martial artist, in a real life assault aerobic fitness doesn't count for much.. the responses would call upon anaerobic fitness. It's more about sheer violence and explosiveness of action rather than being in good shape smile.gif

Indeed it is, on one side - Musashi's techniques and teachings had no aerobics and tricks - everything was set on defeating your opponent with the least amount of movement and waste of energy - in one word, efficiency above all.

But staying fit sure does feel good and does a lot of good for your body!

Oh I do agree sir ! smile.gif

Btw, have you ever tried jump rope training, like boxers use ? It's incredibly intense and hard to learn but it's amazingly effective !
