MUST....HAVE......THESE....PICKUPS!!!!!!!

I got away from my EMG fetish as I stopped liking the CERAMIC magnet sound, and still LOVED My ALNICO MAGNET pickups. Very, very personal choice here. Not everyone's cup of tea to be sure.

For high speed/fast picking/shredding, no other pickup type has impressed me sonically as much as my Alnico based guitars. But again, very, very persona, ear based, thing.

Now EMG has an ALNICO BASED ACTIVE PICKUP! EGAD!!!

*Anyone tried these? I've contacted EMG to see about sending me some to checkout.

Interesting.. I haven't heard of alnico magnets, what's the difference to normal EMG 81/85?

The 81/85 use CERAMIC magnets. Alnico magnets have a very distinctive tone / presence and IMHO work really well for lead bits with loads of picking. Ceramic sets can be overly scooped/dark sounding sometimes. Of course, now we will get all the ceramic fans with their hair on fire!

so, if that's the only difference, these ones are also Active Pick ups... aren't them?

Yes they are active. The "Only" difference is the Alnico magnets. But that's a HUGE difference in terms of tone.

I bet an active alnico based EMG would sound good in that Gibson.
