Pic of Alex Lifeson's touring rig using UAD plugins for his live rig. The UAD setup here is a rack mount external processor, hooked to a laptop for plugin control. We are going to see more and more of this type of thing going forward and it was almost unthinkable just a bit back.

Attached Image

If you have never heard/seen the UAD stuff before it's pretty amazing. They are software plugins that get an assist from a hardware ad on. Either in the form of a daughter card, an external box, or a full rack mount this case. Alex is using the most expensive version (of course) that they make, the rack mount is designed for live use.

Daughter Card is actually a term that's been around for a few decades believe it or not smile.gif It just means a small card that you stick in a slot. smile.gif

The AXE FX is actually a small stand alone computer running a stripped down linux derivative, fun eh? The processing software can be run on a windows Machine which means they could realease full AXE FX as a VST/plugin. So it's closer to the rack mounted UAD than one might think smile.gif

He's not Alex Lifeson, His name is Alexander Zivojinovic, and he's Serbian smile.gif

Btw, i think people should take easy with this...Maybe he uses that Laptop Plugins like an effect in some songs, but i doubt that his MAIN Sound signal is coming out of it...

You never know man... If this was 10 years ago amp simulation on a laptop would've been a joke, but now amp sims are getting some real sounding tones. Stuff like 'S-Gear' has been gaining a lot of attention in the recent years smile.gif

Still, I do see an amp head on the left side of the image biggrin.gif

If i had his money, i doubt that i would use some laptop as main sound source, and not just because of some advertising/marketing deal.

I am currently trying out the Beta of the next version. It's pretty darn amazing!!!!

I did a quick review of it and shared some spiff custom presets!!
