I can't wait to try this thing out!!! I"ve always heard about the legendary SHADOW HILLS MASTERING COMPRESSOR (Big hunk of hardware that costs $7,000 US!!!)

UAD worked with Shadow Hills to make an exact duplicate of the sonic signature of this hardware that runs on their UAD hardware powered plugins. I'm going to down load the demo version (runs for two weeks) and see if I like it enough to buy it. It's only $300 US for the plugin and that's actually reasonable.

Here is a vid comparing the hardware and plugin version. (Granted, it's a youtube video, not an uncompressed audio file). It's so good that (dare I say it!) even our own TONI MIRO maybe take the plunge and try a (gasp) plugin for mastering!!!! smile.gif

The Shadow Hills is certainly a very good comp but I wouldn't say it's the ultimate mastering compressor. In my opinion there isn't an ultimate comp for mastering as you end up needing several for different purposes and what you use depends on the audio, what you are trying to achieve and what you like. Good hardware mastering comps come from the following manufacturers and they vary in price from about $3000 up to $12000 (the Elysia Alpha):

Shadow Hills,
Cranesong
Elysia
GML
Maselec
API
Great River
Millenia
Manley
Gyratek

and a few others.

We do have some plug ins by the way but we don't use emulations but I might try the Shadow Hills at some point though smile.gif.

Well said smile.gif They are starting to throw around "Ultimate Mastering Compressor" in the building/bragging/press of this new plugin release. It's probably more accurate to say "Really Good Mastering Compressor, as Plugin!" smile.gif
