For me sweep is the hardest technique! It took me forever to actually understand how it works! And I am still weak in it and can't really play 6 string arpeggios!

For me also and I still haven't figured out how it works sad.gif I play it up to a certain speed , say 80 - 90 bpm (with 16th notes) and then can not play it faster... I practiced sweeping a lot with Gab's lesson notes but then gave up ..

Since the only context in which I could use sweeping is Mozart Rocks, I don't trouble myself that much with it - for me it's a matter of different shapes - there are some who come really natural and I can play them almost instantly and others, I struggle with a lot, but still come down faulty.

Sweeping feels really counter intuitive when you've put so much practice into Alt Picking. I had a couple 3 string arpeggios I had to sweep (albeit at quite slow speeds) for Gab's Modern Metal Collab, and it took a while to get the picking right and not to fall into Alt Picking automatically

Mixing alt picking with hammer ons and pull offs in runs and arpeggio ideas

There's this Englander who is really good at mixing picking and legato. For him, it probably comes natural, but if he was talked into doing a lesson on the technique he would be forced to analyze how he does it. If he only was an instructor at GMC. Oh wait, he is!

I had totally missed this lesson, which does contain some of what is mentioned above. I coincidentally ran into it, just after the previous post. laugh.gif

playing sweeps on tempo
getting the rolling technique on arpeggios
being consistant
not getting tense while playing harder things

those seem to be the worse for me

Thanks everybody for sharing their experiences here! Remember than Cosmin, Alex, Ben and Me have mentoring programs to help you with this things! You just have to contact us!

My experience with Sweep Picking started when I was 15, I was a big fan of Yngwie Malmsteen so I couldn't stop until I played the Demon Driver etude.... there wasn't a big trick, I repeated it lots of times and after some weeks, I could play it at tempo. It was like magic.

So I can say that this is a good exercises for starting...
