Gentlemen, you have done well with your previous riff based challenge. I invite you to work further on your palm muting skills with this mid tempo lesson.

Just like the Warrior thread, there's not much to explain as it's quite basic.. so jump on in and feel the crunch !! cool.gif

Deadline is next Friday 23rd November or your family will find out about your My Little Pony collection.... ph34r.gif

Of course... you'll have no idea how they got underneath your bed and you will strenuously deny you knew anything about it.... but it will be too late by then...

OMG, you're gonna get some serious hate mail now ! laugh.gif

But credit where it's due, you've done a fab job ! Really even and controlled.. nice tone as well smile.gif

Try to nail that chord that happens at 0:51.. it's a different inversion of an E power chord and a really useful shape to move around the neck because it makes a chord sound really wide and expansive. I think you added the F# on the 2nd fret to it which muddled the chord..

Congrats.. the Donut is yours. smile.gif

Well done Zoom. Your timing seems really good. You could have used a little more gain I suppose, to make those palm muting sound huge. The only downfall here is your chord changes. I would say there is to much blank between each chord (if this makes any sense).

Thanks for your nice comment and see you on the donut battlefield next week ph34r.gif

Zoom, the shred lord from Down Under !! cool.gif

Thanks for your take my friend ! I must admit I did let out a little giggle when I heard your tone.. not because there was anything wrong with it, but because it sounds so mild compared to the aggressive metal backing !! biggrin.gif

I like it though.. the Zoom man can play any metal track with any tone he wants !

The palm muting and chugging was most consistent on the bottom E string which is interesting as you would normally expect people to have more trouble keeping a consistent chug on the fattest string.. when you're on the A string from 0:29 onwards there's some slight dips on velocity of the pick hitting the string.. but it's well within your grasp so please don't take this as a criticism, just an interesting observation. The E string stuff is top notch so you'll have no problem translating that to the other strings. smile.gif

As the Double G noticed, you could work on reducing pauses between chords. This is usually a result of just needing 'thinking time for the fingers' before they shift to a new shape. It just improves over time with the more riff / chord work you do.

Overall man, you've kicked major butt... I can't imagine you tackling and holding your own over a piece like this just a few months ago - well done ! smile.gif

Hey man, you'll hate me but your first take was much more accurate with the timing as here you're quite in front of the beat. Maybe you had the drums too low whilst you were recording ?? I often do that sometimes and realise when I start playing that I can't hear what I'm playing to tongue.gif

You have definitely improved the chord changes though.. there's not loads of space between them now - well done !

You had 2 rythm tracks recorded by the sound of it which were both in the centre.. if you have 2 tracks then you can pan one to the left and one to the right to widen your sound smile.gif

wink.gif Your right Ben you always are. I was really ticked of at my tones and have been for a while so I tried to download some fee plugins and get something better. But I don't like this tone anyway and I was fighting abit of latency with it also. So I've had a really brain freeze. I've since gone and found someone on utube who uses the same pod farm I use and he gets some nice tones. There is such an art in getting a good tone.

On the space between the chord changes on the first take I put them in there. I thought it was better for some reason.

Thanks for your thoughts by the way Ben smile.gif

Cheers

Cool, thanks for the update Z. I did notice that you had a higher distortion tone for your latest take on Task 43.. is that one of the new ones ? It works well and will help you in the Tasks with higher gain riffs etc.
