I really wish we had this tradition in the states. It looks like wads of fun and killer food. We have something simliar called the STATE FAIR which is more generalized but still has wads of booths, food, music etc. Doing it at xmas seems like a great idea. Here's a link
http://www.germany-christmas-market.org.uk/

CHRISTIAN:GITARRERO and DEITERLE in case you guys see this, do you do the xmas market thing?

Also, folks in other countries, is there something similar where you are?

Todd

Sure thing Todd!

Basically every city in Germany has their own Christmas Market. I guess the ones in Dresden and Nuremburg are the most famous, or are said to be the most beautiful. It's nice to go there with friends, have some hot chocolate with alcohol wink.gif or cooked wine (though I personally hate that stuff).
The Christmas Market in Rottweil begins next thursday, so I might post some pics if you're interested.

We don't have that kind of thing here really but I did go to the Royal Welsh Winter Fair on Tuesday, It's kind of like a cross between a market and a livestock show. Basically every summer is the Royal Welsh show which is the biggest agricultural show I think in Britain, then in the Winter it's smaller and more about the produe of the farms rather than the best looking animals. There a lot of stalls with people selling what they produce, meat, Beers, Cheese etc.
Came home with loads of things, home made cider, cheeses, and I think probably half a cow with all the meat biggrin.gif . It's great you get to meet and deal with the farmers first hand and not just pick an item off the shelf in the supermarket.

Yet another reason I need German Citizenship! Do I need someone to sponsor me to get a Visa?

Great pic smile.gif It all sounds pretty darn spiff I must say. Loads of Xmas cheer without all the insanity and rampant Shopping Mall nutbags we get here.

If you get a job here, getting a visa shouldn't be much of a problem from what I have heard.

By now you should have tons of reasons to move here (taking your last pm to me into account laugh.gif )

We do the christmas markets in the Czech Republic too. Quite similar to the ones in germany, though I think the germans take the concecpt much more seriously! smile.gif
Ive never been in Germany over Christmas, so this will be my first "Deutcehe Weinnachtsmarkt" Vists! We're doing a trip to Oldenburg next week, which ive been told is quite nice, especially the markets! Kinda excited!

I'd love to check out the Xmas markets, more for the atmosphere rather than anything. I can't imagine there would be much point in my buying anything.. I'd just start eating it there.. tongue.gif

I agree that you can't beat the Germans on X mas markets ..here in Belgium it's in every village also, nice music,
campfires and ofcours Gluhwein (don't like it either blink.gif )
I prefer to go to the smaller places ...most of the time it starts pretty peacefull but then lotta people
don't know their limits when boozing ...those sometimes spoil the good atmosphere.

BTW.i have to sell alcohol this year in a Xmas market in Ghent....somebody's gotta do it laugh.gif wink.gif
