If you could go back and live in any age of history, when would you like to go back to ?

I could be tempted by any age when hair was long, swords were plenty and hills were home ! But I think I'd really feel at home in the Viking Age.. the beautiful countries of their origin, the seafaring and the overall simple lifestyle. smile.gif

Mate, it's all romanticized you know... We think of it as a great thing but in reality, those times were times when a man's life was worth less than a penny and slaughter was a common thing unfortunately...

I think that I would've enjoyed living in feudal Japan, up to a certain point and in the viking times up to a certain point - the big question is? Are you ready to kill if needed? Because in those times, it would be needed for certain.

Yes you are right and that was one of my considerations. smile.gif

Not to mention there was more disease, lower life expectancy and nearly constant war.

I am definitely looking at it in a romanticized way. Maybe a better question would be 'What time would you like to go back and see / experience ?'

Man I grew up watching anime like Kenshin, I'd love to go back to feudal japan, just to see the tiny villages and how peaceful people were. As they all work together as a community to keep everyone together. But then also to try some city food! Mmmmm sushi and steamed rice.

Did you guys know that the Samurai actually cultivated.. errr...intimate relationships with young men (well, boys..) to indoctrinate and introduce the younger men into Samurai life ? Women were only regarded for child bearing and household duties. This wasn't just a few, this was actually commonly practised, apparently right up to the Edo period.

I think I prefer the romanticized version too !! wink.gif

I'd go back to December 1282 when Llywelyn, Wales last prince was killed and tell him "don't go out of the castle tonight mate, something bad's gonna happen". If you want to know the full story there's a book about it by Sharon Penman called The Reckoning, I think there's also a band about with the same name biggrin.gif

One of the biggest travesties of history. I was watching a program and a guy of American Indian descent said about the people taking their land and killing etc.. 'There was loads of land.. all they had to do was ask !'

That says it all smile.gif

No man love, I'm sorry

Cloud of Sparrows

Warrior clans nursing ancient grudges. Western missionaries brandishing pistols. Beautiful geishas who are deadly ninjas.

1861 - after two centuries of isolation Japan has been forced to open its doors. Now new influences are tearing apart the old order. Japan is as unprepared for outsiders as missionaries are for samurai assassins, executions and honour killings. Genji's life is at risk. He plans his escape to the Cloud of Sparrows but the road is long and there are many places along the way for brutal samurai to attack -The demons of the past, the treachery of the present, an uncertain future are about to collide in the most terrifying ways.

Autumn Bridge

The year is 1311, in the highest tower of Cloud of Sparrows Castle, a beautiful woman watches from the window as the city is set alight and a mob runs riot destroying everything they can lay their hands on. She begins to write down the events unfolding around her and the secret history of the Okumichi Clan. Six centuries later the lost scrolls fall into the hands of American missionary Emily Gibson, a new arrival at Edo Harbour and racing from her tragic past. Emily quickly finds herself translating the text, caught up in the gripping tale of ancestry, heroism and forbidden love. At the same time Emily is desperately traying to unravel the complexities in her own life as two men fight for her love. As Emily sifts through the fragile scrolls, she begins to see threads of her own life woven into the ancient writings. As past and present collide, a hidden history comes to life, and with it a secret prophecy that has been shrouded for centuries and may now finally be revealed.

I'd go back to the 60's / 70's and go to the concerts of all these awesome rock bands that were around that time biggrin.gif

And I'd probably start my own band and be one of the pioneers of punk laugh.gif
