No matter what, it ALWAYS seems like I need more, more, more Hard Drive space. I have 8 TERRABYTES!!! And it still doesn't seem like enough. Do you guys feel my pain? does it always seem like you are having to shuffle your files around and burn them to DVD to make more room?

never used more than 100 GB on a single computer so this new one with 500 should last me awhile

We seem to be on opposite ends of the spectrum. I do a lot of work with Video and since switching to HD video, the data requirements have gone CRAZY!!!

Hey man! I just bought my first portable Hard Drive today (just a 500GB for now, really wanted to to get a 2TB but didn't have the extra $50. Anyways.. I find that over the years going through a full clean of my computer has put off getting an external drive for a good year and a half at least. Here's some tips that might help:

- Delete plugins that you don't use for video and audio software
- Create a cloud to store files or use Dropbox
- Being organized and knowing where all your files are can keep you from needing to download/create similar things that you already have
- If you're not using it, compress it! Compress it all into a .zip files to save space on your hard drive.

Hope that helps!

I'm well versed in system administration and cloud storage but your tips are really important and especially for those just getting in to in, these are really good things to keep in mind!

For me personally, I"m dealing with terabytes of data because of HD video projects. It's way beyond plugins and little things like that, but, it's important to keep track of your data no matter what your level of experience to have a backup plan. I see quite often people lose everything because they simply didn't back up.

External HDs rule! smile.gif

I'm currently trying to be as light as possible using 500GB for both operating systems + external 250 GB HD for storing data for the recording system (VSTs etc). I'm trying to delete everything I need and keep it neat as its so easy to get overloaded and lost...

You said it! Data Wrangling can be a real pain, and end up taking time away from one's "creative" time, which is just awful when it happen. I"m 4 TB RAID ARRAY that is a PAIN to back up since it's 4x bigger than any other drive I have. I need another one just to back it up to actually. But WOW, the costs on the spiff Gtech raids are not cheap. But IMHO, they are worth the extra.
