Some guy at the internet wanted to trade his Boss Metalzone for my broken pod x3, since I am not able to fix the pod x3/ willing to put any more money in it I gave it a shot. It will be here on tuesday and I will connect it with my GT-5 Hoping to get some nice gain out of it.

Experiences with the Boss Metal Zone ?

I spent whole week tweaking it, to make it sound , at least decent, without result. I'm sure a lot of youtube videos could confirm my judgement.

Unless u're into Extreme black or death metal, don't get it.

It depends how much money u need to put into fixing your x3?

I saw a lot of videos on youtube that said the opposite , but if it sucks than I will just sell it. Pod x3 can't be repaired imo.

the same here, I don't like it. But if the Pod can't be fixed it's a good deal.

Also..... that type of tone (EXTREME Metal, etc.) can be depend on "personal taste" quite a bit, in my opinion, versus "tube drive tone" which can more clearly be defined as "great" or "horrible. And the gear you're playing through also makes a huge difference.

For example, I shopped for quite a while to find my "metal tone" for my band EMULATOR. I shopped many, and bought and played 2 before finally deciding to stick with a rather inexpensive Modtone Extreme Metal pedal. Many folks might argue that it's "not good" or a "cheap pedal", but I personally like the metal tone it gave me (through my Parker and a Fender Hotrod, at the time) even more than the MXR pedals I bought prior. But, it's a very personal thing. Though none would say my metal tone is "bad", many true metal players may argue that I can "do better", whereas I won't change it out now that I know that it works for me and blends well with our 2nd guitarist's tone as well.

A lot of people trash it, and Boss pedals in general, but a lot of people also love it for Extreme Metal, mostly Black Metal.

I have tried many awesome Boss pedals! Delay, Flanger, Distortion, Overdrive, Octaver, Chorus and Chorus Ensemble, all these pedals are killer! But I didn't like the two metal ones that I tried... Metal Zone and Hyper Metal (this last one was my first pedal ever).

Oh I agree! The SD-1 is NEVER leaving my board! biggrin.gif I will say though that for Boss I generally find that the delays and modulations are great, the overdrives and low gain stuff are not bad, and the high gain stuff is quite bad. laugh.gif But I've heard some people get wicked tones out of 'em!
