I used GMC a while back, but never used the forum.... I am now back and thought i'd check out the forum. I am a guitar player mainly, but I also play many other instruments and (pretend to be) a recording engineer. I have been in various bands, but lately I have been working on a solo project featuring a very talented singer. I have been working very hard on an album and hope to release it sometime this year. I am also obsessed with music equipment, and am kind of an encyclopedia of guitar gear. I am very diverse when it comes to music, I love a vast array of things, I love hard rock and metal, death metal, but I also love fusion and even country, and I try to blend elements of all of those things into my music. Anyway, here's a recent video, a cover of "Dogman" by King's X featuring the singer I mentioned before, an below are a few demos of songs that will be on my album once they are completed. We are planning on doing a few more covers soon while working on the album, so i'll post those up once they are done.
http://youtu.be/5rpjGI_3s6Q My youtube links won't embed for some reason, sorry, but here is the SC audio of the video https://soundcloud.com/stoffelmusic/dogman https://soundcloud.com/stoffelmusic/drag-me-down-demo https://soundcloud.com/stoffelmusic/everything https://soundcloud.com/stoffelmusic/122112-1 (This last one is from my old soundcloud account, if for some reason you feel compelled to follow me on SC, please follow Stoffelmusic, and not my old 7singer account...I don't upload anything to it anymore) https://soundcloud.com/7slinger/bendy This one is just something I did on a whim, not sure if it will be on the album or not: http://youtu.be/o_vlWbIBDvU[ Sorry for the wall of audio and video! Recording Nerd Stuff: I use Reaper as my DAW, with a Tascam US1641 interface. The drums are a Gretsch kit, but the kit has mesh heads and Ddrum triggers, I am using an Alesis I/O and Alesis DM6 USB brains to send them to my computer, and the sounds come from Toontrack's Superior Drummer (a Hybrid kit of several expansions). There are no real amps at this point either, i'm using a mixture of TSE and Poulin plugins, specifically TSE X50, Poulin Lecto, and Redwirez impulses. I just recently got a actual bass, so some bass tracks are actually a pitch shifted guitar, "122112" and "Dogman" have real bass, but the others do not. I use a mixture of Ampeg SVX and Mark Studo....sometimes I also use TSE's BOD plugin(Sansamp vst). TL;DR version, I'm a newbie, I write a LOT of music, and I am happy to be part of the forum. *edit* Not sure why my youtube videos will not embed? I've heard a lot about this POULIN plugin - is it really worthy ? How this is compared to the 'majors', like GuitarRig, Amplitube … ? Honestly, I also own Amplitube, GuitarRig, Revalver, and POD Farm and I use Poulin and TSE plugins over any of the paid plugins any day. Yes they are free plugins, but they wipe the floor with anything else out there of that nature (other than an AxeFX or Kemper). If you don't know much about TSE check out their site, they have an ENGL 530 preamp vst, 5150 (x50) and a few pedals, and they are all top notch stuff. http://www.theserinaexperiment.net/software.html |

I had never heard about a VST plugin that is better than Amplitube until now. Thanks for that, gonna check 'em out! Honestly, I don't like to record with modelers of any kind. But it's a great tool to have. I find them very useful when giving classes and recording a song or idea - it's so fast and great for this particular purpose! |

I've heard a lot about this POULIN plugin BTW, just thought i'd add that he has Many plugins, not just one. Check out his blog: http://lepouplugins.blogspot.com/ Another plus is while they are not bundled together into one plugin, each one uses very little RAM so it takes very little processing power, which we all know is great when it comes to VSTs. Back before I started using them i'd be running 4 and 5 VST instances of PODfarm for guitar tracks, Ampeg SVX, and Superior Drummer, I also didn't have as powerful of a PC as I do now and my computer really did not like it. Poulin amp model breakdown: Hybrit = Marshall JCM SoloC = Soldano SLO Le456 = ENGL (Savage I think, could be wrong) Lecto = Mesa Rectifier(My personal favorite) Lextac = Bogner Extacy(close second favorite) Legion = His own creation, but based off an ENGL I also swear by LeCab2 for loading Impulse Responses, it is the best standalone IR loader available.....It really is amazing that this stuff is free.
