Work? Pfft.

Who has time to work when a new guitar has arrived? They will understand. And if not, just play something amazing (because we all know that new awesome guitars instantly increase your skill ten fold) and their heads will explode in awesomeness or simply by the sight of your new axe!

Unfortunately that's not really true....i also had a bit of those thoughts about better playing or something...i was terribly surprised when i found out guitar has nothing to do with your playing skills sad.gif

The only thing that made life better is the awesome tremolo and and overall tuning of the guitar - it almost never looses the tune and the octaves can be perfectly tuned.

Ahhhhh .... I was going to post a review last night .... but for some reason I spent the whole night playing my new guitar !!!!

This guitar is a work of art, and it plays like a dream! The tremelo is awesome (never had a decent trem before), the hot pickups give awesome sustain and really boost your legato - the neck pickup gives a deep bluesy rock sound, the middle single coil gives you a cutting strat like rythm .... it palm mutes way better than my Variax(which is its main shortcoming) ... I could go on, but the summary is that it is all I wanted it to be!

And no, I can't really play like Steve Vai or Pavel yet, but not only is this guitar easier and nicer to play, it is also more inspiring, so one day I will be playing like Pavel and Steve Vai smile.gif

haha that is hilarious dude.....wives just don't understand.Currently all I have is a Fender style amp so I've been trying to get a new british style half stack forever, but my wife keeps saying things like "don't you already have an amp, why do you need another." I try to explain it to her, but she just doesn't understand....so now I have to try and figure out a way to get a head and cabinet I really like for under $800......not impossible, but it might take a little while and a lot of "I love you baby, your hair looks nice." Awww, remember the good ol' days when you could spend every penny you have on gear and not worry about getting in trouble for it. I remember walking into a shop one day just to look around and seeing a '73 Marshall plexi superlead for sale (pre circuit board, still hand wired) and whipping out a credit card and buying it on the spot......that crap wouldn't fly anymore....which I think, but I'm not positive is a good thing. Anyway Andrew, I feel your pain man...good luck.....the best thing to do is keep it a secret for at least 2 or 3 years and thing let her find out about it. At that point it's been so long that you can just say "oh man, that was years ago......I told you about this"....... but I guess she'll probably notice the new guitar before that happens...anyway, once again good luck and enjoy the new guitar.

Just decided I am going to call her "The Lady Galadriel" ...

Why? Well, she's a Jem -> Gem, which makes her precious ... My Precious -> Gollum -> Tolkien -> The Lady Galadriel (since she is posessed of an Ethereal beauty!)

Ok, a bit of a stretch, but I like the name so its ok!

So one of the possible nicks for guitar is "JAMEX" - Jam+Axe biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Thats a serious bit of kit Andrew!

Never played a Jem but from what i hear they are very nice to play.

Congratulations, my experience with ibanez guitars have always been that of 'quality'.

Congrats Andrew and enjoy.

Last guitar I bought - Gibson Standard with a red gloss tiger stripe top - I waited until my wife was away for a day for work. Bought it and hid the receipt and then lied about the price wink.gif . Figured as she doesn't really know much about the guitars she'd never know the price. She still doesn't know how much I spent today - 3 years later...

I have this on going 'discussion' with her - she thinks I have too many guitars (not true - only have 4) and I think she has too many shoes over 50 pairs). At the moment I'm edging towards getting a new guitar - if only she'd go away for a few days biggrin.gif

Cheers,
T

I envy you for the hardware, but worse still I hate the fact that the same guitar here in Australia would cost over $4200 Aussie Dollars (roughly $3700 USD). Almost twice the price sad.gif

It's a cruel world you know.

I took a quick trip to the local music store and sure enough they had a Gem in stock. After the first few minutes with it I could easily see what all the fuss is about. Now I have to seriously think about buying one of the lower-spec equivalents sad.gif So much for the Maton being my last purchase this year.
