Hi SubbedChris!! Welcome to your Gab's Army thread!!

Could you please tell me a bit about you, your musical tastes, influences, strengths and weaknesses? I would need some videos of you playing rhythm and solo guitar, so please post your best material here. If you have some music or ideas of your own, also post them here. Also let me know how you think that I can help you and what are your expectations for our job. You can check the other Army's thread to discover the different modalities of this project.

The principles of our Army are:

+ Improve your technique
+ Make music and solos
+ Have fun
+ Destroy the enemy (hahaha not really just kidding... )

I am Chris, an 18 year old person, live in a small city in Greece named Kozani, studying electrical engineering on another city and I grabbed a guitar for the first time when I was 15! I started playing in October 2009 and what I have learned till now is exclusively from GMC (well maybe some tabs for famous songs from various sites)

Influences/Likes/Dislikes

I like many many guitarists and bands (mainly classic rock ones), but if I were to mention my favourite guitarists, I would say Guthrie Govan and Joe Satriani, not necessarily because of their skills but mainly because of their unique and melodic compositions

I love all genres as long as they are melodic and catchy.I dont like metal so much though but for some reason I just love Iron Maiden

Strengths/Weaknesses

Well,I never had a very good alternate picking technique. I just can't play that fast. Also,I think I could manage some better tones. The ones I have are usually not too good. What I would call a strength would be hybrid picking. I like it and have practiced it so much that it naturally comes when I play..!

Material

I don't have many things to show just these 3! Check'em out!

Attached File  AmTake.mp3 ( 1.45MB ) Number of downloads: 113

That's pretty much it..! I think I have infinite things to learn I don't know where to start. I have very minimum theory knowledge. I don't even know the basic scales! So I think I would like to learn the necessary things required for improvising when I hear a backing track or something like that!

Thanks,Chris smile.gif

Hi mate! Thanks for this info! Everything sounds good and in tune over the backing! If you don't know scales, let me say that your ear is really good! Do you know pentatonic minor scale?

Also your timing is good most of the time! I noticed that you use more legato than picking, and that must be because you say that you are not comfortable with Alternate Picking. Do you have any sample of you playing Alternate Picking? Have you ever tried any lesson here using that technique?

I managed to do the first one,but not the second. I was stuck on 32th triplets and could barely do the 16th sad.gif
Unfortunately,I don't have any sample of it

Well, that Muris lesson is very effective for practising but maybe you can get a bit bored of just playing scales back and down.

What about start working on these lessons:
