My friend is wanting to play a show on March 30. The event being organized has 10 bands playing, including us. What was originally going to be me and my friend Dakota playing an acoustic set, turned into a metal project with his friend Brandon (like my name biggrin.gif ) as the drummer. So then I invited my cousin Josh (part of Analyzed Within - my forming band). So now it's two guitarists, me and Dakota; and a drummer, Brandon; and Josh the main vocalist. We have no bassist! I hope we find one, but if we don't we will have to turn up the bass on our amps. rolleyes.gif

We had a practice session last night. It was my first time playing with a real drummer. So much better than playing with a machine like EZdrummer! Man, Brandon keeps time very well (as you would hope from a drummer.) He picked up on everything we played quickly. His fills and beats rocked! My little 70W amp was running wide open and was still having a hard time competing with the drums in that small garage. biggrin.gif We might just mic the amps for the show. And yes, I kept the gain low so it would cut through. wink.gif Or I might find a new amp (if I can find the $$$), as Dakota is getting himself a new guitar and amp.

We are concerned about getting a few songs ready for the show. Last night was more of talking and jamming. We need material to practice. We have a 20 minute window to play our part. We are expecting 200 or more people in this park that the show is taking place. The drummer has played shows before, as has my vocalist Josh, but this would be the first time for me and Dakota. After coming up with a few things last night, we agreed I would make some playthroughs for us. Dakota said he needed to practice. Brandon would need a playthrough without drums so he could do his own thing. I might even share them here if people wanna see. We gotta stick with simple stuff right now since we are so pressed for time.

I don't know where this will take us, but I hope we could all become Analyzed Within one day, and it would no longer be just me and Josh. Right now we are just having fun in preparing for this show. If we did become Analyzed Within, we would only need a bassist. I really hope we find one for the show. haha tongue.gif

I just wanted to share this joy! I had a blast last night!

As far as Analyzed Within releasing music, I am working on some songs, and I nearly have the whole EP composed. Josh is writing nearly all of the lyrics now. It's easier that way. The single, the title track "Living in the Last Days," has not been released because our studio guy is so dang busy that he cannot get to it as much as he would like. sad.gif

And if you know me and my low-tuned guitars OCD, you might be surprised to hear we are playing Drop C for our show. I'm pulling one of the songs from the EP - at least that's the plan. Transposing is no big deal, but will be fun!

Brandon

EDIT: By the way, did you know I got a new guitar? biggrin.gif I love it for the price!

Hey Bran!

Congrats man! I can feel the joy and good energy through my computer all the way across the ocean biggrin.gif I'm very happy for you mate!

My advice would be to record the bass track on an ipod and play with it in the live setting if you guys can't find a bass player till then - start rehearsing like that for the gig already! Ok?

Congrats for the nex axe mate - not exactly my style of body design, but if it works for you, that's all that matters smile.gif

We want pics from the show! Pics from the show! biggrin.gif

Awesome Brandon! Playing with a real band, preparing a show, rehearsing, organizing everything is a priceless experience that will introduce you into a new world! There are lot of things that you will learn playing with a real band that can't be find in books or clinics.
Thanks for sharing the experience here! I wish you all the best with this.

PS: Nice guitar! Congrats! smile.gif

Nothing like a real bass drum to shake the floor of the rehearsal room! :-)

Thanks for the encouragement guys. biggrin.gif
Cos, I wasn't always a fan of that body style, but I just wanted to be different because it looks so sinister! haha and that bright red will kill on stage. I will sure try to get somebody to take some pictures!! smile.gif

Here's a demo of what we are working on. Of course, the drums are EZdrummer, but Brandon is getting the drumless version so he can do his own thing. https://soundcloud.com/fireball100/band-project-1

Hey Bran! This is very good!!

If you ask me - I'd take care of those bended notes in the solo so that they may be in pitch and end it in such a way that it won't sound too abrupt OR if you want to accentuate that effect, stop the whole song for 2 beats right when the solo ends and let the vocals do something there, then continue with the song as it is now.

In the end, I'd add some melodic arpeggios over the main theme/ chorus - that's what it is right? smile.gif Hope this helps out mate wink.gif

Hey Brandon - congratulations on this achievement! smile.gif

I can still remember the first ever band rehearsal I had and first time playing with other people including a drummer. It was simply AMAZING and at that moment I got "hooked" smile.gif Playing in a band is extremely satisfying and fun. I'm hoping this will be a beginning of something big.

Wish you a fun gig! smile.gif

p.s. That new guitar is going to look awesome on stage! smile.gif

Sounds exciting man. Looking forward to hearing how the show went. Get someone to do an audio recording for you too, or just set up a video camera on a tripod.

Good idea! You can actually turn this into a nice vid - 'Analyzed Within - Live footage from our first gig!' How does this sound? smile.gif

yeah, I'm definitely going to figure out a way to get some pictures AND video. We got our drummer to record us practicing using his smartphone. The sound quality is actually quite nice. I just msgd him on fb to get it to me and I will post it on this thread! smile.gif

And Cos, this seems like a side project from Analyzed Within, right now, but I would definitely upload it on my artist channel with similar descriptions. smile.gif

Btw, our last practice yesterday went very well since my other guitarist, Dakota, had been practicing the playthrough/lesson I gave to him on a CD. Spazz, the drummer Brandon prefers that nickname, just jumps right in. He said he is more of a rock drummer than a metal drummer, but I like it because we have more of a prog sound.
