Dear GMC REC:ers,

From time to time we need to adjust our grading criterias - and we have now reached this point.

We have had a staff discussion, and have identified a need for stricter/more honest REC grading. In plain English - we think we have let some REC takes pass that should have failed.

So the coming time instructors will change their grading a bit. This might mean more student tears in the short perspective - however we believe it will also result more successful GMC rock stars in the long run! Hopefully you can understand where we think priority lies.

I also want to point out that the staff team has agreed that detailed and honest instructor feedback now is more important than ever.

If you haven't yet submitted your first REC take - I suggest you do it as soon as possible. It can take your playing to new heights unexpectedly fast!

Kris is right and I will add that takes won't receive passing grades if guitars are out of tuning or bends won't reach the correct pitches wink.gif Most of you guys are doing a great job, but you need to become more focused on the details that make the difference between 'ok'ish' and 'hell yes!'

See you in the REC Zone, gringos!

I totally second this, great idea and we will benefit from it.
I didn't submit a take in a while now, but for some of my last ones I wasn't really happy with the takes and was suprised to get pretty good grades.
I know it's hard to receive a bad grade, and I always think "doesn't Cosmin (or Todd, Ben, Gabriel etc) love me anymore?" but I think it's for the best.
Keep these useful changes coming!

I like the idea of this! Maybe I'll try and join in on the REC system, I just have a hard time finding a lesson and then sticking with it till I actually have every single bar of the song down, maybe I'll have it all down but then there will be an annoying run that I just need to work a bit more on, etc tongue.gif

But I would also like to get some really honest feedback, so I would know exactly which problems I should work on, hmm...

Anyways! Maybe you'll see me there someday soon!

That's the beauty with REC, it forces you to get the last details down (which can sometimes be the trickiest part).

I often find that attention to details is what set the pros apart.

So my previous recommendation applies to you as well - submit your first REC take and you will progress quicker!

I also hope that this leads to a more consistent and reliable/fair grading of the takes. There are mainly two things that have annoyed me from time to time with the REC grading. One is that it is too easy to get the highest grade - if a take which is not perfect or very close to perfect receives a 10, then which grade should be given to a perfect take? Also, anyone grading the take should be (or become) somewhat familiar with the lesson, to avoid "I agree with what the other guys said" or "try to isolate the fast parts and practice them at a slower tempo" or other obvious standard replies.

Edit: After all, it's all about making progress and not compete with others about high grades. I'd say anyone benefits from making it more difficult to get a 10 - what is there to strive for beyond it?

Whilst we are on the subject biggrin.gif .....I must add my two penneth...

In the short time I have been here, I have noticed something about the difficulty grades of lessons....some of them are just not graded correctly. I think we are all aware of that. The reason I think we are all aware is that when a lesson is graded too low for its difficulty..example: a lesson is graded 2 and should really be 3 or even 4....nobody wants to spend their time doing' that perfect take'...if they don't get 'paid' properly ( we are humans and we know which side our bread is buttered)....therefore not many people seem to bother with REC takes on those ones...although they are great lessons and well worth learning.
On the other end of the scale the situation, in my opinion is reversed..example:. lessons that are easier but have a too high grade....everyone wants some of those easy points and understandably those ones get more takes.....

I also think there should be a site reward attached to the REC system to encourage people to take part....maybe a free month or two subscription.

EDIT: I forgot to say...that I think its a good idea that Kristofer Dahl wrote...Toughen up on marking....otherwise we will get no where!!!

Exactly! And this does not necessarily mean to be harsh, the GMC community makes an excellent example of places where people in general are knowledgeable yet humble, informative yet polite, etc. I don't see why this wouldn't prove itself to hold even with somewhat stricter grading rules.
