I have always felt this was a bad idea. And if this designation should be used, it should be used only for those who have demonstrated prowess with the guitar on a level equal or near equal to a teacher, and who are helpful. Pretty hard to be helpful when you don't know squat. And until you know enough that you don't even really need this site, you don't know squat.

edit: I don't know squat myself, by that criteria. And it does not stop me from saying my 2 cents at times. However I know that I don't know squat. When a person sees the tag senior, it should mean EXPERT on guitar, imply that. That is my issue with this, making this another popularity contest. The most helpful people are not always the most popular. In fact, I think that is generally the case.

read edit. not trying to be mean. just saying that when i see designations like this, i assume the person is an expert. I suspect that Kris may have rethought this a bit, from the early incarnation. He has not made many seniors lately.

You were not being mean at all. Just the truth, I overlooked it.

Correct me if I'm wrong.. I don't think Kris ment as the people to be experts, I just think they were made to be looked upon as role models of how to act in the community. And help keep things orderly.

Guess I'll have to agree with the fine members of GMC, DeepRoots deserves it smile.gif

..and fkalich: You're not being mean, you're simply stating your opinion smile.gif
Everyone should be allowed to do so if they want without being seen upon as mean..

I don't agree with everything you said though, as I think a Senior member should be a rolemodel on how to act in the community as well as being helpful on his area of expertise.. I don't think all Seniors should be EXPERTS on guitar, that's not beneficial for anyone. My point being that people have different things they're good at, like Guitar, Amplifiers, Recording, Theory etc.. I'd rather have a wide area of expertise amongst the Seniors than a bunch of people all knowing the same stuff if you know what I mean smile.gif
Also, as long as they're a good rolemodel and are helpful with what they know over a period of time and show dedication to GMC, I don't see why that person should get a Senior title!
But again, this is just my opinion smile.gif

I need to sleep now, work starts in 5 hours sad.gif

Good night everyone smile.gif

So in order to be a senior, You have to match the skill of an Expert? The point of seniorship isnt to acknowledge there guitar skills, But to acknowledge them as someone who actively contributes to GMC and helps out the members.

Very much so - its a community designation rather than a Guitar skill label (sorry fkalich if the nomencalature confuses you, but that has been the intention all along - the community thing, not to confuse you wink.gif).

And I can't read Kris' mind, but I'm pretty sure we will have more seniors in the fullness of time smile.gif
