What are your tried and tested methods for syncing your video and audio feeds?

I was being lazy and using the stereo mic on my web cam to pick up the audio from my speakers which has both metronome and guitar or backing track and guitar, but the quality of guitar tone is lost, so I'd rather use my DAW and be able to have control over the mix and a decent tone, but that means syncing video and audio, something I guess is a little tricky.

Personally,

- Zoom into the 'timeline' of video editing software
- Find the exact time of my first pick stroke
- Find the first peak of audio
- Sync up in the smallest increments till it looks good

Same as Socky for me. Record both together (obviously), import audio and video into editing software, iMovie in my case, then trim the beginning of the video until they are as in sync as possible.

Ok My first thought was to invest in a clapperboard, I wasn't too far off!

I set up camera and daw and hit REC on both platforms.

After a good take I place my hand on the lens of camera (few seconds) so I know where to find "the take" (if I have recorded many takes) when I'm editing.

I place video file first on iMovie then I add guitar track.

Then I turn up volume on video file and lower volume little bit on guitar file. And move the guitar file so it's in sync.
Then I mute vid file and turn guitar files volume back to 100 %.

I know there's better methods but I have stick to that one tongue.gif

I work with a friend that shoots my vids, but otherwise I use the same exact method as you aside from the hand placing smile.gif As that's not necessary anymore, due to the friend that is there to help me out with the logistics
