Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Power Metal Rhythm Guitar by Gabriel Leopardi

hi again, this is my first rec using two mics on my amp and mixing it, if you could judge on my tone also. i panned at2050 all the way to the left and sm57 all the way to the right, im not sure thats the right thing to do? and as you can probably tell all my recs are from gabe, i like the way he does vibrato on just about everything on quarter notes and longer, wanna get used to that.:) i went through and bookmarks my favorites from instructors and though id concentrate on each instructor then move on tho the next. ill be round here for awhile. thanks guys

Hi Dave! Try to see the two wav drawings from both mics. I might be wrong but it sounds like there is a phase issue between both mics. Can You post a photo of how exactly You set the mics to the speakers? You can try this:

http://www.vstwarehouse.com/2011/06/phasebug.html or manually move the drawing on the one of those mics tracks.

Try to play both trackas togehter panned mono (center) Add the phasebug vst just on the one track. Play and move the orange ball. Listen if there is a place on the circle where You can hear more bottom end than without this plug-in.

As for the tone I would cut out some 4 to 6 khz or just use a low pass filter to cut above 4 kHz to get rid of that "fizzy" high end.

As for the take - part after 0:18 needs more attention to the timming. You can try to emulate the "empty movements" so the notes just after the breaks get better in time.

P.S If You could send me both mic tracks I could try to figure out the problem and add some EQ. If You would like that I could send You some reference EQ settings for further tone search smile.gif

Hey mate, I think Darius pointed out the important aspects regarding the sound and I would also like to add that before 0:18, the small runs separating the shifts, like the ones at 0:03 or 0:11 for instance, need more definition as they are kind of blurry right now.

Please take some more time to work on this one at a slow tempo, focusing on all the details.

Keep rocking,

Hi man! Besides Cosmin and Darius comments, I would like to add that your palm muting could sound more defined. It's not sounding tight and it's not sounding clear enough. Experiment with your right hand until you find the correct muting with your palm. There are also a timing issues from 00:26 to 00:32. Check these things and you will master this one.
