Heh, excellent thread, Darius. Some of the older guitarists in Poland call tapping technique - "dzięcioły"
dzięcioł = woodpecker smile.gif

I still remember those funny moments when I was a kid and I asked some more expirienced players for "how to do this, how it's called" adn some of them had no idea so they gave those techniques some weird names and bothered to try top explain something they didn't understand tongue.gif

Here's the deal in Romanian biggrin.gif

Lick = Fraza
Chord = Acord
Scale = Gama
Fret = Tasta
Pickup = Doza
Bridge = Punte
Palm Muting = A palma
Finger = Deget
Bar = Masura
Note = Nota
Alternate Picking = Panatie alternata

I'd also add:

16th notes = Saisprezecimi or 'maruntele' which literally means 'little ones' laugh.gif The old players say that in here biggrin.gif
Dive bomb = 'Fluierata' - another term which was used by the guys which grew in the 70-80s. It means 'a whistled one'

If 1 per 10 words is similar in Swedish and Polish than we could speak with no translator H4H biggrin.gif Takt is the common word smile.gif

So many germans on the forum, and I am the one who has to answer this? Oh well...
My fellow countrymen, feel free to correct me:

Lick = Lick (we stick to the english term here)
Chord = Akkord
Scale = Skala
Fret = Bund
Pickup = Tonabnehmer
Bridge = Brücke
Palm Muting = abdämpfen or abgedämpft spielen
Finger = Finger
Bar = Takt
Note = Note
Alternate Picking = schneller Wechselschlag (had to look that one up, mostly we also refer to the english term)

So, in English they would be:-
Lick = What a Cat or Dog does to you.
Chord = The noise you make when you hit 3 or more strings at the same time.
Scale = The white stuff in the bottom of my kettle.
Fret = What I do when I get letters from the Taxman.
Pickup = What I try to do on a Friday Night!!
Bridge = A completely non-sensical Card Game.
Palm Muting = Noise reduction for Coconut Trees.
Finger = What bad criminals do when they grass on each other.
Bar = The place to go to pickup.
Note = What I get from the Doctor to get me off work.
Alternate Picking = Ambidextrous pickpocket!!!

How do you say "true metal" and "false metal", respectively, in Serbian?
