Mike Wilhelm at Club Fox, Redwood City, CA, New Years Eve 2011-12. Opening for the Unauthorized Rolling Stones. Video by Matt Tadevich. This shows what one can do in a tough situation.

I was supposed to play "blues roots of the Stones" before the Unauthorized Rolling Stones which is a really good Rolling Stones cover band. Since another rock band had played before me I figured I better come out of the gate rockin'. The sound man asked how long I wanted to wait before I went on. I didn't want the high energy to dissipate so I told the sound man, "I want to start as soon as you can set up a mic for me." He was surprised but set it up in a couple of minutes and I went right on. I usually close a solo blues set with the Bo Diddley Medley but instead this time I opened with it which proved to be exactly what was required. The crowd was up and dancing from the opening chords.
