A good friend showed me an interesting idea today, in the form of a Kickstarter project:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/marser...e-effects-pedal

He states that 'The OWL is an open source, open hardware, reprogrammable effects pedal designed for musicians, coders, and hackers.'

The key features for musicians would be:

- Load patches from your computer via USB
- Collection of sample patches available and growing
- Standard guitar pedal inputs/outputs

I thought it might be interesting to share, since we all are into gear and I'd be curious to see your thoughts on such a project. Would you see it as a successful endeavor or not?

This sounds interesting! And it's also amazing to see how this site really works and projects can become true. I have to explore more this type of sites. I remember that Bear Rose's new band music has been recorded thanks to a site like this one.

Sounds cool to me smile.gif There are tons of pedals that let you edit the patches on PC though so that's not exactly "New", but that said, it sure looks like an interesting product. I hope folks adopt it and make some killer software!

I thought that it wasn't necessarily a totally new and innovative idea, but I think that for me, it's more about the idea in which a guy gets to receive funds from people that also believe in his idea smile.gif Neat huh?

What projects would you like to receive funds for, on a social funding platform such as Kickstarter? Al lot of us have bands and I think that we could make very nice projects, get people to support us and.... who knows? smile.gif

I did sessions for a band that wanted to master for and press to vinyl.
They had a very successful Kickstarter campaign.

KICKSTARTER and INDIEGOGO are very cool smile.gif They represent the democratization of FUNDING which was brought on by the democratization of technology smile.gif The internet, then the web, then social media, now crowd sourced funding.

This is a serious blow to what little is left of the old funding model that record labels represent. These days you can literally fund your own project before you even record it. One of our own GMCers just posted his kickstarter that resulted in $80,000!!!!!

His band is releasing a 5 disc box set from the kickstarter project wink.gif Just awesome.
