Hello guys! My name is Robin and I am a new subscriber and member of the guitarmasterclass comunity smile.gif

Actually, I'm not truly new here : I started learning guitar 4 or 5 years ago and was sharing an GMC account with a friend of mine (really good guitar player btw) known here as JKB.

I am a 19 year-old French student. I live in Paris, France and study in a preschool to pass entry exams to get my ass to the best engineering school I can wish to aim for. Lately, I've been through a lot. My cheating girlfriend broke up with me a month ago which basically put an end to an 3 years old really bad and destructive relationship (but you know what, I thought I was in love and kept hanging to the few times we were happy together and called it happiness, puting my friends and even my studies aside for this girl). But now, it's over and I finally got through depression (which I think was actually one of the reasons I kept staying with this girl... lol) and I'm more ready than ever to study again and improve my guitar playing skills as well biggrin.gif

We shall talk a little about my guitar playing now wink.gif I really don't have a well define style and I often describe my self as a "not real musician" as I don't know much about improvisation and think myself more as a interpreter. I play rock music, metal music an a bit of blues. I would really enjoy to take my "theoretical skills" to the next level and become a great blues player as well as a great fusion shredder tongue.gif

I personally own three guitars :

-my first guitar, a squier stratocaster that I really love all about (except for the pickups which are really bad unfortunately)
-my second guitar and first folk one, a Greg Bennett Design (a guitar I underestimated a lot for a long time and that I now absolutly love)
-and at last but not least, the guitar I play the most, a Lag Arkane 200st on which I replaced the originals EMG-hz pickups by a set of EMG 81/85.

That might say a lot about me but actually, I lately started to dislike more and more my lag guitar because I started to play on 800$-1000$ schecter guitars and even tried one (the Blackjack C1) with Seymour Duncan pickups on a Blackstar Ht studio 20. I don't own an Amp (I use guitar rig 5 with a toneport ux1 line6) so that last experience really sowed doubts about my rig. I will most likely start a new thread about it but I plan on getting a Blackstar Ht studio 20 and was wondering about also about a Blackstar Id:15TVP.

That's all I can think of and let me know if you have any question cool.gif I am looking forward to the REC program.

See you on GMC and ROCK ON !!!

Haha those are exactly the ones I was (re)watching writing my first post!! I've already seen them a couple of times smile.gif

Thank you! but I can't really build an opinion based on this reviews, it's like they don't teach me anything on the products! I am kind of a newby and I would actually like to know why the ht studio 20 (for example) is really better than the cheaper one. I tried it and definitely loved it : that's exactly the kind I wanted to bring back home tongue.gif but i was kinda short of money this day... so it will have to wait a bit! biggrin.gif

Ps: your french seems alright wink.gif

It is really better, the modelling one has almost no dynamics and it's lacking those lovely singing highs.
although I'd look at some of the HT studio 20's little brothers like the HT-1 or the HT-5, cause they're a lot cheaper and more suitable for bedroom practice. I'm going to upgrade my rig aswell these days and I've already decided to get an HT-1. Anyway, have lots of fun here biggrin.gif

Btw, what are some of your fave bands?

Thank you for your reply! Yeah I'll try to check and try them out but I would like to have something powerful that I could possibly use for a showcase or an heavy practicing session with a friend and a drummer for example. I can wait to get the money (moreover with school, it's not like I could be spending all of my time on it already biggrin.gif) and I would love to feel that I have put the money in the right place (that's why I'd like at least 15w tongue.gif).

Children Of Bodom is the band that really put me into music back then. I like metal music but it's pretty hard to really say I have fav bands. Although, it's true there are bands out there I know all their discography tongue.gif for example I love Insomnium. Different style but the same kind of great admiration would be for the Mumford and Sons. I have seen Ensiferum two times in concert and they were both really great shows with great guests. "Punk-rockly" wise, I'm a fan of Green Day, simple plan. Other bands I enjoy a lot would be the national, Florence and the machine, the fleet foxes, Coeur de Pirate (because à part of me loves everything from Canada tongue.gif)...

Hi Robin! Welcome officially to the forum! That's a very cool introduction. I'm sorry about your bad experience with your ex-girlfriend but we learn a lot of these experiences. I had one similar when I was younger and I learnt a lot and became stronger. On the other hand, this moments usually are full of inspiration so it's a very good time for getting back to you guitar and make a big use of GMC. We are here ready to help you so let us know if you need some assistance or something!

Thank you so much for your reply Gabriel, I literally started learning how to play the guitar by practicing your first lessons along Lian gerbino's and Kristofer's! So you can guess how I felt when, wanting to add the fact that I loved the YouTube channel Jam Track Central (they feature a lot of artists from whom I learn a lot about guitar playing), I came back to this post and saw your comment biggrin.gif

Yes, I learned a lot on life itself and even more on myself. "Stronger" is exactly how I feel today. Speaking of inspiration, going through my darkest moments didn't took me to listening more black and death metal but more surprisingly, to my punk rock roots. I (ashamedly tongue.gif) listened back to Simple Plan, Avril Lavigne, All American Rejects, Pink... and discovered with surprise that easily 80% of their songs are about breakups (at the time I was listening to them, I used to not understand all the lyrics)!

More seriously, I believe that the styles of music you listen to don't matter as long as you feel something, as long it "gets" you something. I felt a lot better when I started to sing with all my heart Mumford & Sons' songs.

And now, I wish to you all a good night, I actually have to wake up in approximately 4 hours tongue.gif . Cheers,

Rob.

Welcome Robin! smile.gif I'm using GUITAR RIG 5 as well and I really like modellers in general smile.gif My fave is currently OVERLOUD TH2. I"ve got AMPLITUDE and AMPLITUDE METAL as well and they are pretty spiff as well. I love being able to pull up tones from a warehouse full of gear living in my computer smile.gif

Still, sometimes there's nothing like the real thing so getting a Blackstar is a fine choice smile.gif
