Per request, I thought I'd talk briefly about a new modelling plugin I"m trying called
S-GEAR (By Schuffham Amps). In short, the field is THICK with competition, so what sets this one apart? Quick and dirty answer. 1.)Amazingly accurate "Tube" tone. So accurate IMHO, that It's "Tubeishness" might be off putting to folks who like Hyper Gainy Solid State Amps/Modellers. 2.)Clean Channel With Effects Built in is the BEST I"VE HEARD YET. From any plugin modeller I've tried. The response is very close IMHO to a tube amp. The articulation, response, detail, everything. 3.)Rythm Dirty Channel really does respond like a tube amp when you hit harder/softer. Here is a sample and a my first CUSTOM PATCH for clean channel. *Unzip before use https://soundcloud.com/techniqueswithtodd/scuffham-amps-s-gear-plugin ToddChorus1.sfx.zip ( 555bytes ) Number of downloads: 91 Here is a Dirty sample and my Second CUSTOM PATCH for Dirty channel. https://soundcloud.com/techniqueswithtodd/scuffham-amps-s-gear-plugin-1 ToddDirty1.sfx.zip ( 466bytes ) Number of downloads: 84 And finally DJENT VERSION BOOSTED ON INPUT WITH MY CHEAP NUX 0D-3 PEDAL! https://soundcloud.com/techniqueswithtodd/scuffham-amps-s-gear-plugin-2 I"m not going to be turning my OVERLOUD TH2 preset collection in, and I"m using the DEMO of this plugin so far. But it's well worth a download of the demo just to try it and make some of your own patches. It's like having several really nice tube amps waiting for you inside your computer. You can call them up at the touch of a button, use headphones, and still get great tone that would take serious effort/time/money/hassle to replicate in the real world. Worth a few clicks This post has been edited by Todd Simpson: Jul 4 2013, 03:09 PM |

It really is impressive IMHO. It's one of the more accurate tube modellers I"ve heard thus far. Many modellers claim to be good at tube mimickry but most sound like solid state with a tube soak IMHO (Dear me, I sound like a Cork Sniffing Tube Guy!!!) which is great for doing high gain mechanical crunch, but not really good enough at re creating an actual "tube response" which is something entirely different.
The S-Gear plugin seems to be much more similar in responsiveness to a given strike, than other modellers in terms of re creating what tube amps sound like when you hit them harder/softer. E.G. Dynamics. If you have not grabbed this demo yet, it's really worth a look. I'm so impressed with the clean sounds I may have to buy it just for that. The clean sounds really blew me away. I've tried countless guitar plugins and so far this one is unique in terms of what it does and how it sounds. Todd That does sound good. I tried this, this morning quickly. I remember posting about it to you Todd, months ago but never got round to looking at it myself.
Things I like 3 Amps- rather than a gazillion. Choose and amp closest to what you want and work with it Redwire IRs - Rather than reinvent the wheel, they went to someone already doing a great job. Usable presets - just great tones, not showing the fulll capabilities of using everything at once with weird sci fi sounds etc I'm sure they'll add to this, but it is a very usable product -------------------- My SoundCloud
