Improving Tones/ Peavey 6505

You say you're working on the 'tone thing'. Could you possibly be more specific? What kind of tone are you trying to achieve. I think if we have that info, it will be easier for us to help you. I just refused a very interesting offer of buying a Peavy 6505 head for about 700 bucks... I had other things that I needed the money for, so I said 'let it pass'. The guitar tone is perhaps a bit heavy in the upper mid range of frequencies. It could use maybe a bit of a scoop (cut the mids) and let in a little more sparkle (treble How are you recording? Direct out from amp? If so, you are not getting any speaker color from your cab and can't adjust the microphone to change the sound. Very often we have problems to fit our guitar tone to the mix because all other instrumens have too much middle. If You listen to some professional metal productions You will hear how much the middle is scooped from the mix. I can only suggest You take own experiments with the eq. It's very often a second side of the problem when it's not that something is missing in the guitar tone, but the other instrument has a bit too much of some range. Middle is the worst thing to mix always...because in this range speakers have most differences.
