What Are You Practicing?

I've been playing for the last 2 yrs but really seriously for only the last 5 or 6 months, and more so now that I'm on GMC. I've finished with the beginner lessons and have moved on to some of the exercises and 101 lessons. (Although I do venture back to the beginner stuff every now and then)I'm not really sure where I plan to go with my guitar playing but for right now I'm just happy jamming in the house and learning all I can. I'm absolutely floored by my progress over the last three months. Whats nice about that is, the better I get, the more I wanna play. So while I'm not quite up to Pavel's speed (and technique) yet, I'm making steady progress. Of-course after I get the alternate picking technique down, there are others that will require attention. I'm slowly incorporating the Legato exercises. Its a lot tougher technique then it first seems. I figured 3 - 6 months on that, and I'll feel good about moving on to sweeps. To be totally honest, sweeps scare me. I tried them before, and I'm all thumbs. They will require uber practice and time. Other then that, the new Vibrato lessons from Marcus look (and sound) great. I think I'll give them a go in a bit. The Phrygian Dominant lesson from Dave is awesome sounding too. Muris' Pentatonic lesson is also a winner. Not to forget about Gabriel' blues and Yngwie lessons. I feel like a kid in a candy shop, too many to chose from. Thats actually why I've been sticking with strictly technique lessons first. I figured I'll get the chops, the rest should follow. Boris Hey man that's awesome that you've got back into guitar after soooo long. I just wish I had started playing 25 yrs ago. I just turned 30 and only started playing at 28. I find now I'm more dedicated that I probably would have been earlier but I also have more stuff that gets in the way. I've tried the legato lesson....scares me a bit I must say but I don't think I'm at the right stage to practice that. I'm going to start with the alt picking I think over the next day or so. Sweeps scare me too. But I have to agree...it's like a candy shop here at GMC...so many goodies to try. You are at GuitarMasterClass.net Don't miss today's free lick. Ive been playing real seriously then. I try to practice 5 hours a day minium. Im currently practcing: - Pavel's Hand Control Lesson - Pavel Denisjuk lesson - Sweet Child O Mine song - Kris's 101 Two-handed Tapping im trying to master those string skips from the first lesson i mentioned. And well thats basically it. Now that its summer vacations i get to practice 12 hours sometimes, and its great. So i really hope that by the end of summer i really get to improve alot. Being the sole bread winner of a family of five (wife and three kids), I'm thrilled to get my two hours in (usually 10 - 12pm). I would kill to have that kind of time. Still with my limited schedule, as I said before, I'm absolutely amazed at the progress in the last three months (I just reached 80bpm on Pavel's Alternate Picking 4 lesson ). I now know exactly why this is happening. Its all due to really focused practicing. When I played 25 years ago, I made a mistake of trading control for speed. I was so stuck in a rut, I never got better, and I never learned anything. This time around, I do everything I can to practice the right way, and its paying off big. I'm loving it. My only weak point is that I don't use the metronome enough (have to force myself). If I can give you one small piece of advice, it would be, stay focused, don't rush, and you can't help but get better, fast. 12 hours/day, at the end of the summer you'll be a shreding machine . Boris yea its great to have this amount of time everyday , but still, practicing 2 hours a day is great, so keep it up. I dont use the metronome much either, i wish i could use it more but the truth is i dont know how to work with it that much, so i tend to avoid it. And yeah, by the end of the summer i hope i can make great Tapping/Two-handed Tapping patterns and i also hope i can make my Upstroke sweeps perfectly. There's a program that has a free trial (the trial sucks) it's called Guitar Speed Trainer but there are ways to get the full version for free... I'm not sure on the rules of the forum so I don't think I'll say anymore, but if you're familiar with the internet you know what I'm talking about. And I wasn't quite sure how to incorporate the metronome into my workouts either, but this thing is quite amazing You are at GuitarMasterClass.net Don't miss today's free lick. I have a program called zonealarm that was making video's either not load at all or load slowly. It took me a little while to figure this out, so if you've got any kind of software that monitors your incoming data from the internet, allow GMC to send data or disable the program :)
