Yes. I have started practicing the main riffs, and rewriting of the rhtyhm (just the rhythm of the right hand picking).
It'll take a while though, not an easy song considering the solos that are part of the rhythm guitar.
I'll try to make them into something funky as well, hehe..

You said I could make it different biggrin.gif

hehe sounds great! smile.gif

Ok...
Now I've set up our guestroom as a mini recording studio.
I can barely fit in there with my guitar and amp laugh.gif

However, I'm able to mic my amp and record some stuff again.

Recorded a test this morning, and this is what it sounds like at the moment: Attached File  trallalla.mp3 ( 1.33MB ) Number of downloads: 59

So now I can concentrate on Stormbringer, knowing that my equipment still works smile.gif

I've miced up my Hall Amplifications amp with a Shure 57 Beta microphone.
Guitar is a Gibson R8, and I used the JHS Angry Charlie pedal.
Eq'ed the guitars a little with API eq.

Drums are Steven Slate Drums, and Bass is Spectrasonics Trilian.

Excellent! I'm using both VSTi in my lessons now. Great ones.

Yeah, they're pretty awesome.
What templates do you usually use for Trilian and SSD? :-)

There isn't a lesson online using these ones yet. I started using them around 2 months ago. I've never repeated the SSD presets. I mostly use it for lessons and as each lesson is covering a different style/band, it's cool to have all those possibilities. Regarding the Trillian, I don't remember exactly the presets now but I will check it at my studio. What about you?

Ah, ok smile.gif
I use different SSD presets, and sometimes makes my own kits.
For Bass i usually use "4 string modern" and "5 string finger" presets and tweak them to my liking smile.gif
Best bass and drums VST there is in my opinion, and I've tried a lot.

Just to keep you up to date..
I am still practicing the song, learning the riffs, and deciding on what to do with them.
Later today I will record the two first riffs and post them, so you can hear that I'm actually doing something laugh.gif

Edit: The three first riffs actually, and If you're lucky I'll record the fourth as well smile.gif

*drumroll*

Here it is, I told you I'd post something today smile.gif
It's the intro, verse and half the third riff (with a twist of course, I'm not taking this lightly).

Hope you like it so far..

Attached File  Purpleboy.mp3 ( 1.83MB ) Number of downloads: 78

So... What do you think?
If anyone else is listening to my uploads, please tell me what you think as well (good and bad) smile.gif

Edit: Guitars are quadtracked, 2 with overdrive (85% Left and Right) and 2 clean with delay (50% Left and Right). Bass is Trilian, and drums are SSD. Guitars have been slightly EQ'ed, and there is a compressor on the bus track to tighten things up a notch.

Hi mate! This is evolving really good! I like it. I listened to it lots of times! smile.gif The only thing that came to mind while I was listening is that I would take the production closer to Mars Volta... you will think that I'm crazy, but that's what I felt. That type of guitar sound, drums sounds, an also arrangements... you know, mre flexible guitar takes, with variations. Something that Joe Satriani explained in a video that Ben shared at the forum yesterday...

Risky suggestions... haha tell me what you think! smile.gif

Thanks, it is going forward at least smile.gif
Still a long way to go though, I need to figure out how the second guitar will play.
Now they're both playing the same licks, but I got a plan for that.

The Mars Volta you say..? I'm not a fan I'm afraid smile.gif
I think I see where you want me to go with this..
More variation in my playing: I can try to include some different arrangements in the riffs, and still try to make it fit the song.
It wouldn't be a problem if I didn't have to think of the original, hehe..

The guitarsound and general sound/mix is by no means set in stone, so when we get there we can discuss what to do.
I need to see how the rest of the song plays out before I know what I want to do.

I didn't get to record it yesterday, but there will be acoustic guitars on the song as well, so I have to make it fit in as well.

Hmmm, not sure I follow you on the Mars Volta, but they have a cool sound on many of their songs though..
So I can try to get closer to that if you want smile.gif

Let me post another clip in a few days, with updates and we can go from there?
I think you're gonna like it better when the guitars are playing different parts, and the acoustuc guitars are in place.

Can you tell me the names of a few more songs you think I should listen too by Mars Volta?
Just to see if I can find a tiny place in my heart for them laugh.gif

Hi mate! You don't necessary have to set your views on Mars Volta if you don't like them. I was meaning a more "live", "organic", "dynamic" overall sound and performance. There are many other bands and albums in which you can base. I can imagine something that is very produced but that sound live. Does it make sense?

Yeah, I know what you mean smile.gif
I'm learning more riffs and "rewriting" them to fit the song. When I'm done and start recording again I will try out different stuff and post here.
I'll post parts and different approaches here, and we can discuss? smile.gif Sounds good?
