Well, Im a frustrated guitar player. Never taken any lessons, I can strum open cowboy chords and make little tunes and chord progressions till the sun goes round b ut I cant play a lick of lead. I do the finger exercises but never am consistent with synchronizing my pick and fret hand. I sometimes wonder whats the point. ill never be great so y pound sand trying. A lot of things seem confusing to me, from how to adjust the controls on my amp to working my pedals and basically understanding how to utilize scale patterns etc If you don't play guitar and watch me play youll think Im great, but any real player knows where im at. I like all music. From Zeppelin anf Hendrix to Metallica, Dave Matthews, Phil Keaggy . Heck I even think prince is a great underrated guitar player.Just now trying to learn how to record but its overwhelming these recording programs. I feel like a need a degree in engineering, I need my hand held and help in all areas. I guess I should mention im 39 and neverseem to have the time for me, but that's gotta change. I wish somehow I could get the veil lifted and the light to come on
Currently my gear is:

Yamaha APX500 acoustic electric
Tradition strat style electric
Boss ME-25
Audiobox interface with studio one
Marshall MG30 amp

hears a little diddy with a digitech drum beat

Hey mate! Don't worry at all smile.gif Since I've joined GMC I've probably improved more than I had improved in the last 3 years or so smile.gif and I didn't know a thing about recording, I learned it all here!

About the playing leads thing, are you practicing with a metronome? Are you warming up before you start your practice session? Keep in mind that it might take you a week or two to get a pretty fast lick up to speed if you haven't ever done that kind of thing before. But once you get in the flow, the time you take to learn to play any lick perfectly up to speed will become less, but you WILL get there, playing guitar is all about being patient. Maybe you just don't have motivation, that's a big thing you miss out on when you don't have any instructor smile.gif

There are tons of resources on how to practice effectively, I've taught some people myself on how to make a practice routine and then stick to it! Even if you can only practice half an hour a day, you must make it effective, and the lesser time you have more effective it should be smile.gif

Hey there man! Welcome to GMC - this will surely be the place in which a team of dedicated dudes - students and instructors alike, will lend a helping hand in lifting that veil smile.gif

First off - you need to start believing in yourself - if you don't believe that you have the ability to learn, assimilate and use information with success, you are failing without even starting your trials.

Let's start with coordination - this lesson here is a great start in understanding rhythmic subdivisions - the basis of lead and rhythm playing:

Let me know if you want to develop the subject, deal?

Cosmin

Hey man,

If you've got the dedication, you'll be able to get there! This is a great place to be, and as a few others have already said, you'll be improving in no time, if you commit to it smile.gif

I personally think that there is an initial stage of guitar playing that can be quite frustrating, your fingers hurt, you can't seem to get barre chords to not buzz, etc. But once you get past that stage, you will have so much fun, and your ability will open up much faster.

See you around the forums, and don't hesitate to ask anyone question smile.gif This is a great community and everyone will be supportive
