The Video is in our class notes but I'm still working on the FINAL FINAL video for the COLLAB THREAD. It will feature each players name as a graphic and will have a detailed feedback of each Solo. It's in the works and should be up very soon!!

Some cool solos, but I think my part is painfully out of sync compared to my original video. The solo is late compared to the backing.

I did have to adjust things around with each track to make it work as a whole. Trying to get everyone squeezed in with the backing was quite tough in the end. I did like your solo smile.gif It was a tad thick with effects though so layering it over the backing was tough. I was thinking about using everyones takes with their combined backing, but levels were sorta all over the place so I had to cut and paste and jog it around smile.gif Thanks again for participating!

I did notice mine was moved a bit as well, but you have to do what you have to do. smile.gif Looking forward to the comments!

I think I did add some reverb to it. It was sorta poking out a bit compared to the others so I just added a bit of "wet" to it smile.gif

FINAL VERSION WITH TITLES smile.gif

Six Demon Collab

Student Critique!

**Let me apologize if your solo was one of the ones that got joggled around to make the entire piece work and stay below 6 minutes. I did have to slide things around a bit.

EVERYONE RAWKED!!! smile.gif You guys really did some fine work on this. Here is the Critique!!

BLEEZ:
KRUSHED IT:Very cool interpretation using Pentatonic Structures. Good technique and tasty chops. Glad you could join in!!
TIPS & TRICKS: I did notice your right hand is resting a tad high on the bridge which is not a huge deal, but putting it a bit more toward the center will make some licks, such as open string work, easier to mute.

CAEL:
KRUSHED IT: Nice chops and really spiff Streeeeeettch technique! Also incorporating Pentatonic Structures to great effect. smile.gif Nice use of the “Double Tap” during the tapping section as well smile.gif
TIPS & TRICKS: One thing to maybe try, your ending sequence ascending works well and given how good your picking is coming along, throw in some Doubles/Quads to give a percussive effect now and again smile.gif

GITARRERO:
KRUSHED IT: We can always count on a great themed costume and you didn’t dissapoint smile.gif The “Men In Black Metal” was a nice touch! Not to mention a very spiff solo highlighted by the “One Handed” Technique! It’s visual, it sounds cool, Bingo!
TIPDS AND TRICKS: Just to balance the one handed technique, maybe add something crazy as a lead in as well, just to announce here comes the shiznickle!!!! wink.gif

SLAVENKO:
KRUSHED IT: You nailed the “motif”/”theme” idea that we talked about in the lesson following your solo submission. Good timing on this bit as well.
TIPS AND TRICKS: Your note choices are interesting and unique in the later part of the solo using dissonance for contrast. Maybe balance some harmony with the dissonance just to even things out here there.

STACEYD
KRUSHED IT: You really did KRUSH IT. The solo was pretty incredible I must say and I found myself relistening trying to figure out what you were doing and even after looking at the tab it’s still hard to wrap my head around. Great solo construction and balancing elements along with great execution. Nice.
TIPS AND TRICKS: A pinch harmonic here and there just for a sorta BANG STOP might be cool smile.gif

ULRIK
KRUSHED IT: Very interesting “Atmospheric” interpretation and choice of effects. Good combination of elements and licks.
TIPS AND TRICKS: The tone/fx sometimes almost overwhelms the playing in bits. Maybe submit a clean take just for reference in subsequent collabs.

VERC:
KRUSHED IT: The most adventurous Solo I think I’ve ever seen. Pure popping and pulling leading into an overhand 8 finger tapping routine. It really looked cool too smile.gif
TIPS AND TRICKS: It’s always tough to make notes close to the same level/volume on this type of play so using a compressor/expander & gain stage can help the notes stick out.

BLISTER:
KRUSHED IT: You’ve really come a long way!! This is only your Second Collab and you are drilling and killing smile.gif Great use of various licks that we’ve been working on and blending of bits you’ve improved. Saweet smile.gif
TIPS AND TRICKS: Keep going like you’ve been going. Keep adding variation in your solos. You’ll do just fine wink.gif

MAD:
KRUSHED IT: Really nice combination of single note work and scales. Good tone as well and clean picking.
TIPS AND TRICKS: One of the bends was maybe not all the way sunk in but it still worked. smile.gif Also, maybe add other elements (tapping/open string work) to compliment the scale runs and single note work.

SAMMETAL92:
KRUSHED IT: Good note choice and blend of elements, bending, vibrato, legato, etc. Very clean picking and good use of negative space.
TIPS AND TRICKS: The solo construction is working well smile.gif Maybe throw in something flashy at the end to give it a sense of climax.

VONHOTCH:
KRUSHED IT: The Award for Best Animation in a Collab goes to!! VONHOTCH!! Really creative video man! Did you make this just for the collab? Also, very well matched solo with the Wah Wah and blues licks. Overall vibe matched great!
TIPS AND TRICKS: As Kirk Hammet used to say “Sweet Spots and Dirty Spots”. You are starting to use tension and release quite well so keep focusing on “setting it up”(tension) and “paying it off” (release).

Great Job Guys!!!

Thanks for the comment, Todd! I didn't know double picking when I did the take, but I'll remember it for sure...when I get a good grip on it. It's still causing me troubles, as you could see laugh.gif

This is a really great video Todd! smile.gif I was a little disappointed that there wasn't a "Todd Unleashed" or "Todd Gone Wild" take in it.

I love how it turned out. All the GMC'ers who took part did an amazing job. Some real cool styles & ideas going on in there. It feels great to be a part of it.

You are so right! I have come a long way from when I started GMC. Back then I could just play a major scale & chords. Sometimes I'm not able to get much practice in during the week so this proves spending weekends at Midnight Metal Madness chats can really improve one's playing skills.

I tried to use bits from the chats & then played around in the scale to the backing track until the bt would finally "speak" to me where I could finally nail down a solo I was happy enough with. I even noticed it while I was playing my take that it does need syncopated variation rather than just the straight eighth notes.

Thanks again for all you do for GMC & the chats. It's appreciated more than you know! smile.gif

Yes, I can see the problem, when we all record differently.

Anyway it was fun.

Thanks Todd! biggrin.gif Great job everyone smile.gif And do you mean some fast stuff at the end? Like a tapping phrase? I only had a little ascending legato phrase at the end smile.gif

thanks todd smile.gif the finished piece sounds really cool.
Funny that you mentioned how my right hand is because I do often find certain things I try to mute seem more awkward than others cool.gif thanks for the tip, dude.
