Wow, that looks big what program are you using? Sony Vegas?
This is that big that it took us some time to handle all the edition but I know the pre-mix and I already can say...this went awesome! You will see very very soon!
Ladies and gentlemen! It is time to present to you the final video mix of the 'League of Extraordinary Axemen Collab'! Everybody did a great job and we want to thank you for being on our side and helping us in bringing the track to life! Cheers to all you superheroes out there!
Enjoy the video and after that, let's all share impressions based on what me, Gabe and Darius have discovered while analyzing your playing. I took on the phrasing/expression, Darius took care of the mixing and tone observations, while Gabe commented on the technique and execution.
Gabe's Observations
1. Bahadir
Hi mate! I really enjoyed the melodies that you added to this collab. The use of “fade in” is a very cool idea to generated a superhero atmosphere. Your timing is very good and your vibrato fits great with the backing. Nice feeling!
2. Cael
Hey Captain! You solo sounds killer. You use many shred techniques in your take as tapping, alternate picking and sweep picking without losing melody, the overall is very musical and tasty. Both your vibrato and timing are just perfect and that fast sweep picking lick makes this section one of my favorite. Well done!
3. Taka Perry -
Hi Taka! Nice solo! It complements very well, Captain Cael’s solo. Your technique is good on this one but I think that your vibrato and bending could be even more consistent. It doesn’t sound bad, it sounds very good, but your vibrato could be wider, and the bends more aggressive. Just to have in mind for the future. Keep on rocking!
4. Patrik Berg Hi mate! Great use of different ideas like bending, octaves, sweep picking arpeggios and alternate picking licks. Your phrasing is really cool on this one and I just can mark a very little timing issue at 03:10. Thanks for your take!
5. Coffeman Nice ideas added mate. You solos are very tasty and the only thing that could be better is timing. It’s nothing very serious it’s important to pay attention to it. Keep on rocking!
6. Dieterle You solo is technically simple but sounds very good over the backing. There is nothing very important to mark regarding technique, just pay attention to timing. Thanks for you take!
7. Sammetal92 Nice phrases mate! Your solo doesn’t include very tricky techniques and I think that the overall is very well played. Your vibrato could be a bit more consistent and regular. Thanks mate!
8. SteveGuitar Hey Ninja! Your technique in this solo is very explosive! You make honor to your superhero name! You start with a perfect bend, followed by a shreddy sweep picking lick, and then the tapping licks starts to blow everybody’s minds. Thanks for your magic!
9. Sensible Jones Hey SJ, I’m impressed of that 2 hands technique, you loopk very relaxed an it seems that you are playing other thing than the one that is sounding…. Thanks for your magic!! tongue.gif
10. DeGroot Hi mate! Your solo is technically brilliant! It sounds very tight, an groovy, and those bends are top level, very expressive. There is nothing to fix on this one, just enjoy the great playing. Good job!!
11. Jim Sekford Hi mate, nice ideas! You have a very good articulation and your fingers are strong enough to make very well done and wide vibratos. However there are some little timing issues, and pitch issue in that first bend that could make this take sound even more professional. I think that it just needs some more practice. Thanks for your take!
12. Bleez Hi Bleez! You recorded really rocker melodies. I can hear your Stoner influences on them. Everything is played very well, but I think that the last ideas could sound more consistent. The bending are a bit off and the alternate picking could sound tighter.
13. thefireball You are awesome mate. Your riffs and melodies sound 100% tight and beautiful over this backing. You did a killer job! Thanks!
Cosmin's Observations
1. Bahadir
Amazing playing my friend! As I said when you first posted the whole take, the influences, phrasing and articulation you have brought from your country and the usage of the e-bow have without any doubt made you the most original participant at this collab
2. Cael
Ben, your phrasing makes me think about a battle on the sea It is spacy and I can easily imagine Captain Cael with one foot on the head of the siren in the front and a sword in his hand! A nice note selection, especially in the intro and around 02:07!
3. Taka Perry - You were melodic man Yet, what I would like you to work on when you have to deal with this kind of lead playing would be the dynamics in your phrases. You seem a bit static, so think of incorporating more note durations for your notes and rests as well!
4. Patrik Berg
Pat, using octaves is always a good way to fill in the spaciness of this track and the second part has pretty good dynamics
5. Coffeman
Mate - I think that as in Taka's case, dynamics and direction could be some things that you should be focusing on. You need to combine the note selection and the landing notes with various note durations in both playing and rests I like the tone tho and with some strong bends and vibrato, you could really make it shine!
6. Dieterle
Hey Dieter! A more atmospheric approach in your take! It can get better and better, but watch out on the timing when writing lines over the track - you need to follow some strong notes that resolve nicely in the important moments of the backing track. That could be one thing for you to practice in the future and I am sure you could get very nice results!
7. Sammetal92
Hey Sam! Mate, you need to watch out for those pitches Some of the bends were not always as strong as they could've been! I know you can do better, so focus on working your bending and articulation skills for the next one and also, focus on strong notes that come together well with the important parts of the backing track - just like in Dieter's take. This approach will create sense of direction!
8. SteveGuitar
I know we discussed it in the collab thread when you posted the take. As Yngwie Malmsteen would've not agreed - less is more You tried to cover everything up with tapping and that was a bit too much. Try to let the lines breathe a little and I am sure you will come up with something a bit more melodic, although, I dig the part starting around 04:17. Also, watch out on the timing
9. Sensible Jones
Neil - you were melodic and following the track direction - pretty darn fair I'd say A man with experience always knows best, eh? And here's how I made things rhyme as well
10. DeGroot
A tasty combo between what Malmsteen and Michael Lee Firkins would play Love it! Especially the whammy bar and the stacato phrasing!
11. Jim Seekford
Nice formula based ideas man Watch out for the pitches of the notes which were bent, in the part between the formula based lines. It's pretty easy to get caught in the fire and lose a bit of focus I think you should focus on this in the future and keep using this idea of combining formula based lines with more bendy/ bluesy ones!
12. Bleez
Hey mate - I think that it's a good thing that your approach was based on following strong notes and playing something in between so that you underline the chord changes. Also, I notice that you have been working on your articulation skills - the bends are clean but a bit rigid. Keep working on that flow and it will only be a matter of time till you become more and more expressive!
13. thefireball
Well, well, if it isn't the man responsible with the low end I think that the layers you have added with the 8 string brought a very strong punch on the riffage mate. I enjoyed coming up with the lead lines and accompanying you in the last part Clean and precise approach - I like that!
Darius's Observations
1) Bahadir
No complaints. Well matched tone to the type of playing, based on warm, low mids where the root frequencies of those notes were present. Very clear and "kind with everything else in the mix". Easily could handle Gab's and my solo over it (both were scooped, and focus to play "around" the frequencies you had as a main)
2) Patrik Berg & Bleez
Patrik, your tone reminds me a bit of Type O Negative Your tone as well as your playing fit nice to the backing and left some space for the strings in the background. Very good one Similar situation with you, bleez- the sound you found and note choices made this very well corresponding with the backing track. In both cases it sound like a part of something bigger, not just an independent solo far above the backing track.
3) Dieterle
I think you could set a bit less gain for the phrases you choose to play, but the tone has some potential I think we should work more with your "tone from the hand" than the amp set-up But that's gonna come while time is passing
4) Sensible Jones
- I know you had some issues with recording gear but even though I had to make some order with harsh 4-6kHz range, it became very nice support for Steve solo at the beginning and also left some place for other instruments in the mix
5) DeGroot & Coffeman & Cael & Taka Perry & SteveGuitar & Sammetal92
Tone cuts through the mix but it would be nice to find a bit of a better balance between high mid-range and treble. Cael - your tone is nice when listening at low volumes but when increasing the volume, it becomes a bit unpleasant. Also...when you focus your tone at a huge boost in very narrow freq range (2-3 kHz in your case) then on some audio speakers your guitar will be much too loud while at the same time not clear enough on the other ones. Good balance will help you make guitar visible in the mix but also keep other instruments clear too smile.gif Coffeman - I would add some more low mids (300-600) because the Strat itself is pretty bright and you had a lot of high mids (around 2500 - 4000 Hz which) which can also become a bit nasty while listening loud. Very often, tiny corrections make miracles. Try to mess with your tone on headphones and consider experimenting with those two ranges. DeGroot - similar thoughts. I would try to search for some more pleasant brightness in your tone (maybe add more treble, but cut some of 2,5 - 6Kz?).Taka - You had a bit more of breath.
I brought you all to one group of the "mid focused guys" The reason for this is you all focused your tones on the huge amount of middle boost (lower or higher in different cases) Don't treat it as something very bad. I would only like to suggest you to make some little tone experiments because middle is probably the most subjective range to trust when you compare different speakers in different rehearsal conditions. This interacts with how we feel the volume of the solo on different audio gear. It's good to leave some "breath" in the high end because sometimes it adds some clarity when you already have some mid-range focused instruments in the mix (like strings and backing guitars in this case). Also if there is too much mid range it makes listening too uncomfortable. In fact you can make your guitar less loud in the mix and have to "sit well" within other instruments.
6) thefireball & Jim Seekford
You were both in the similar tone family (even though there was an octave difference thefireball: Perfect "nitro shot" for the final round of the collab Great tone fit and rhythm assignment. I only had to take of a bit some harsh 4kHz and give a place for Cosmin's solo. Both fit awesome I think Jim Seekford: good mid scoop choice for the type of playing you chose for this one. Although, I would try to add more presence on the amp (or amp sim) and roll down the treble pot a bit

Whoa! Just saw the video and it's killer! There's just so many great solo's in it! Thanks so much for doing this collaboration, and can't wait to do another one in the future

Hey Cosmin , after listening to the Raw Guitar Recording, I agree with you to 1000% . Rythm Timing is miserable You have my word that next time you get a more melodic and better take than this time

well done every one, thanks Gabriel, Darius and Cosmin for putting this massive collaboration together. I can't help but notice that my solo has been placed out of phase but I did the same thing for my last collaboration with a few of you so I know how easily that happens.

I was expecting it to be good ...... but its mega that bit at the end of Degroot's solo where you had him grab the comic book frame was such a cool touch. well done folks, really tasty solos. very cool indeed. It was great to be involved.
Darius, Im not sure if that was a camera effect or make up but your Hulk character looked great! LOL!
