I know nothing about the GNX 4, so can only say in a completely biased way that the PodXT Rocks - actually I have a PodXT Live with is great fro studio and live work. I think Line 6 is the company to beat if you want to go down the Amp modelling route.

Hows the distortion on GNX4?

Is it meant for metal?

Too expensive for what you get! A friend of mine bought one although i told him NOT to buy it. A week later he was already selling it because it really sucks for live playing, distortion is just ZZZZZZZZ sound.
And i didn't see too many good reviews about that one.

But PODXT Live seems to be a real piece of art among our GMC-ers. Best would be to try before buy!

Try before Buy is really important.

I'd be between the ZOOM G9.2TT and the POD XT-LIVE... both have their pros and cons....
I am not sure I don't know that Digitech Effect but some others I've tried out had a large delay between switching patches which simply is a no-go for live playing... you have to try it out in a store.

Not sure why your friend had so much trouble did he use the built in noise suppressor? at harmony central it has the highest score out of the 3 mentioned above, and alot more features than the others. But with so many features and sounds it takes alongtime to get use to the unit, there just so many things you can dial in it has 6 wah types .Im still learning things about this medal 6 months after buying it

I don't like the Line 6 distortions on the Pod or the Spider amp series. On the GT-8 i think the distortions are great for what you pay,but it's all down to your own personal taste.Im still looking for my ultimate distortion sound and i think i have found it !, the problem is it's the Mesa Boogie Roadster and it costs £2200 blink.gif .

To the OP checkout the reviews below from Harmony Central but try before you buy is my advice wink.gif .

I don't know very much about the Line 6 pod's but I have an M Audio Black Box and am very happy with it.
I've only recorded with it once so far but it was very easy. I use the MAGIX music studio deluxe 2005 version for my recording and it works well with it.

Everything that I've heard about the Pod's is good. I just don't have any experience with one myself as I have only used the Black Box. I believe you'll be fine either way.

I have a DigiTech GNX3000. I love it. I'm not very good, but for what I was looking for(a bunch of stuff in one for a relatively low price), it is great. I don't play live/professionally/etc, just for hobby.

Many options. I went with the GXN3000 instead of the GNX4 because it was a bit less expensive(on sale at Guitar Center for $359).

You can find plenty of downloadable user presets from their website/forum or create your own.

I like it because it works quite well with my computer. I can record right to my PC with just a USB 2.0 cable(that comes with it). That is the main reason I chose it.

Of course, it is the only amp modeler/workstation I have ever tried, but the guy at GC recommended it for what I was looking for. Very strudy and reliable so far for me. I've had it a little over a year.
