Hi everyone. I want to try some of the Metal Metrics lessons.
They are in drop C. I've got a set of D'addario Heavy Gauge 12-54 (EXL145) layin around here that I can use.
Should work fine for drop C right? I know i might have issues fitting the heavier strings into the nut slots. I'll file it a bit if need be (on one of my non-gigging guitars.)
They could flap - might need a new set up going that low as - i guess depending on the current set up - the neck might bow back lightly as the tension would be less. This could lead to buzzy frets. Saying that, you might get away with it - do you a have floating trem...?
Hey man Please let me know how things are going on the Metal Metrics lessons - 12-54s are pretty good. For instance I use 10-52s for drop C or standard D - just to be able to make those bends as easy as I like'em.

I worked through Metal Metrics 4 last night. Nice riffing, not too hard. Now I just need to make it very very clean, and get those cool artificial harmonics right. Also the sound at the very end that's made by sliding up to 22nd fret, I haven't got that quite right yet.
IT depends on strings type. When I had my drop tuning period I tried a lot of different gauges and for example in my subjective experiments 12-54 from Ernie Ball where stiffer than 12-60 from D'addario. wierd but that's exactly what I felt while playing hard. Resetup of the guitar is necessary if we consider it from the professional playing view, but very often after changing the strings You will still have Your guitar ready to work at some tolerance level
