Hey Gab!

It goes quite well. I'm doing all the exercises again once in a while and just got a few errors tongue.gif

Here are the results for the latest exercise:

1. Major 3rd
2. Perfect 5th
3. - Major 3rd ___ Perfect 4th
4. Octave
5. Major 3rd
6. Perfect 5th
7. Octave
8. - Major 3rd ___ Major 6th
9. Perfect 5th
10. Major 3rd

This time I tried to recognize the intervals without any instrument just by singing the notes between the interval I'm hearing. Afterwards I checked the results by playing the notes on the guitar. Got the 3rd and 8th ones wrong.. Really don't know what happened on 8 though laugh.gif wacko.gif

Great job Mad! This is perfect now. So if you still need more practice, I recommend you to record your own exercises to keep on training these kind of intervals (starting from different roots) to keep on training your ear.

Hello Garbiel!

How are you? Long time no see tongue.gif
Some things have changed in my life and I had to get over a few things..
But finally I'd like to start playing Guitar again. I need a strict plan to use my free time as best as I can to get better in composing my own songs (incl. mixing) and master some techniques I'd like to use when playing solos or improvise.

Hope to hear from you soon smile.gif

Sounds good! So this is what I'd like to see from you:

- A list with 10 songs that define your musical taste and wished direction of your composition.
- A video playing any solo lesson that has enough material to check your current technique (vibrato, bending, timing, dynamics, alternate picking, legato)
- A list of 5 of your favorite guitar improvisers

List of 10 songs (no spec order)

- Breach - Mr. Marshall
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30IB0yTuw9o
- Toundra - Bizancio
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjO-JL-X5dw
- Toundra - Cielo Negro
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZY0vzusAWw
- Deftones - You've seen the Butcher
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SczI0bc-gxI
- Kylesa - Unknown Awareness
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AF_uecAA0M4
- Monolord - Cursing The One
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VxX_APq-M6A
- Sinch - Seven
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhG-Kxby50E
- Sparta - The Most Vicious Crime
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HjyHsP7qp6U
- The Ocean - mesopelagic: into the uncanny
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJ2cgxumHAw
- Mastodon - Hearts Alive
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qp1dRh2FVVs

These are all Bands that I like to hear quite a lot nowadays and those songs are kinda inspiritional to me.. although there are lots of different styles (metal, post rock/metal, rock, sludge).
I 'd like to try to combine a few styles.

I don't have any favorite guitar improvisors.. Well, I remember you and Darius improvising a lot in V-Chats back in the days - that's what I always liked and would be able to do biggrin.gif

I'll pick a solo-lesson and will come up with a recording ASAP.

That's a killer list mate! I'll wait for your video. Take this time to work on the lesson chosen, and share a video as soon as you can.

Hey Gab,

that's what I have been able to play so far. It's a lesson I already played some time ago so I decided to give it another go.. I tend to rush on some places, the bends aren't precise and the end is a mess. Finally that's where I am at the moment..

Ok mate, this is the plan that I'd suggest for the first 10 days. In the meantime, you can review all the song analysis that we did since we started this thread and summarize the most interesting concepts.

ASSIGNMENT #1:

Goal:

- Phrasing.
- Major Scale Improvisation

TASK 1:

- Learnt at least the first minute of this lesson: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Buckethead-Style-II/

TASK 2:

- Improvise over the backing track of the lesson trying to create your own variations of the phrases learnt, combined with your own phrases.

Exam and deadline:

By Sepeth you'll have to share 2 videos:

- A video playing Ballad Soloing lesson (5 coins)
- A second video improvising over the lesson's backing (5 coins)

Each of this videos will be evaluated (check the coins value below). You need to get at least 7 coins to pass. If you pass, we can continue, if you don't you will have a second "call" that would be the last one.

Thanks Gab!

Well, for the past 2 hours I tried to get a tone like Darius but without any success at all (I even tried to use the same plug-ins). That's very annoying. Next thing: I realized that volume swells aren't possible with my guitar and there are lot's of them in the lesson. There must be something wrong with the volume knob and I have to fix it. Anyway - is it possible to learn a different phrasing-lesson?
