Reviving this thread because I thought you might get a kick out of this sign , Ken. tongue.gif This intersection is about a 10 minute drive from my house.

What does small "s" and "w" in front of the street name (?) stand for?

RD is I suppose "road"?

This is where i live. It's a growing city, but still small enough to be nice. Some really nice renovations going on down town which makes it very eclectic and a nice place to walk on a weekend night - bands playing outside and stuff - many nice places to eat.

We're located right between Charlotte, NC and Atlanta GA in the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains.

South and West.

Thanks for info - that sounds perfectly logical! smile.gif

It is something we are not used to in our country at all. I would assume those streets are really long?
We never say "West Street Name" to describe in which part of the street something is. Usually describe it with the "its close to the intersection with ..." or "its in the upper part (relating to the street house numbers rising)".

BTW - to contribute to the thread with a pic, here is one in which you can see the small private lake and our newly made bridge we have in Belgrade which was featured in one of the shows on Discovery as monumental build. This is shot close to the river bike trail I like to ride.

Like Ken said, the "s" and "w" is for South and West, and the "RD" is indeed Road. Obviously, this is not the corner of the Hollywood and Vine you may have heard about in California. biggrin.gif

The streets are long here. It's just very north Hollywood and Vine.

laugh.gif Yeah, the first time I drove to that intersection I said to myself, what the heck is this!? It must be the bizarro world version of Hollywood and Vine! On one corner is one of those espresso drive thru coffee shacks, and kitty cornered to that is a small mom and pops store that sells a few groceries, candy, and soft serve ice cream. The other 2 corners are empty wooded lots. biggrin.gif

laugh.gif No. But where Rich lives they do! It would be our (L.A.'s) homage to the 49th state.

*We do have California Black Bears in the hills just north of Los Angeles, maybe 64 km north (40 miles N. of DnTn). Still in L.A. county.

Galway, Ireland

The last picture was taken during 'Race Week' the last week of July is a big 7 day horse racing event in Galway, and the main pedestrian street is full of drinkers every night, it is truly mayhem.

Just outside of Galway city, you start heading into a rural area called Connemara, I don't go out there without a full tank of fuel. Easy to get lost and not a petrol station for miles!
